Thomas James O'Leary was a terrific Phantom and he was so young, it was very interesting to see the role played by a man in his 20's.  Of course he sang well, but his movements, and acting even under that makeup was very touching.   :'(

I feel much better after my walk.

Glad it worked.  It’s amazing how much better a walk can make you feel.  I was dragging this morning but after exercising I’m ready to take Echo for her walk.  If only it weren’t damp & windy out.

I agree with Dear Readers William E. Lurie and Dan-in-Toronto and others this morning that without TV shows like those of Ed Sullivan, Rosie O'Donnell, Mike Douglas and Merv Griffin and game shows that regularly featured Broadway types (such as "What's My Line"), no Broadway star, as talented and as charming and as charismatic as he or she may be, will ever be recognized nationally as a "Star" without television and movie exposure.

Imagine.  The Lunts would be overlooked today.

Well, Fred Phelps and his Topeka Kanasas krazies came and went this morning. I didn't see any of them but did hear lots of sirens...so don't know what was occurring. Traffic backups I think. Anyhow, they were protesting that we have a gay judge on our Oregon Supreme Court.

I'm glad we finally made it to Page Two.

Just read Juliana's Journal.  I'm so glad to see it again.  And hopefully we will get up to date soon.  It really make a difference.

Great entries.

The Journal will be updated and we will have a spectacular end to it when Juliana leaves the show.  We're planning some very fun things.

If you think your boyfriend has been killed in the war, and you are a pianist, then you need to get hooked up with a famous composer and have him buy you clothes and a huge New York apartment.

Then when it turns out that your boyfriend was only slightly killed and he comes back, marry him, and then shoot the composer.

At least that's what Bette Davis did today in Deception.

Rosie didn't give Broadway in general a boost.  She gave shows she liked a boost.  I remember the day that she had a number on from PARADE.  She was not a fan of this show, so merely presented the number with no comment and no interviews.  She merely introduced it and mispronounced Carolee Carmello's name.  On the other hand she plugged TITANIC alomos daily, and  presented numbrs from the show on a regular basis.  The FORBIDDEN BROADWAY spoof of TITANIC featured Rosie as saving the show.

Oh MR BK - sorry I forgot to tell you, deleting my temporary internet files made it possible for me to hear the Broadway Radio Show.  I thought it was probably something on my end - so to speak.

After you have listened to our own Donald Feltham's sparkling new radio show (he has a new photo up, at least go and look at that if you can't listen to the show), hie yourselves over to BBC Radio 3 and listen to Stage and Screen. They are doing a two week retrospective of Lerner and Loewe. There are some nice sequences with the Sexiest Man Alive (or the Sexiest Man in the World, I forget) Brent Barrett. The presenter plays a sequence between Barrett and Rebecca Luker with There But for You Go I. It's wonderful.

I agree, Miss Beth Fowler is wonderful and should be bigger. She was excellent in the 1989 Sweeney at Circle in the Square (Mrs. Lovett against Bob Gunton as Sweeney) and she was (as DIT said) very moving in Boy from Oz as Peter Allen's mother.

Btw, does the journal end when Juliana finishes with Millie?

After this post we need 16 posts to get to page 3.

I'm listening to Donald's show right now and hearing John Cullum in On the 20th Century just makes me realize how much better that musical was than this current revival of the play 20th Century on Broadway now w/Baldwin & Heche. Cullum is magnificent

Hmmm.  It sounds to me that Bette's intentions did not coincide with the emanations from her truth of being.  At least, that's what Wayne Dwyer stated in his fourth book, When Good Girls Go Bad (Bad! Bad! Bad!).

And yes, I was completely errant and truant this weekend, so go ahead with your laughing and jeering and finger-pointing as I sew scarlet e's and t's on my shirt collars (and ya know, you can buy scarlet e's and t's at A.C. Moore craft shops.)

When Merman and Martin were at their peaks, cast albums were among the top selling records in the nation. That's how someone like Mary Martin could become a household name, even before she appeared on TV as Peter Pan. (Once she did that, of course, she was forever a national celebrity.)

But even Merman, Martin, Julie Andrews, and Barbara Cook (to name a few) made regular visits to TV on variety shows, specials, and spectaculars.

The world has changed too much. Now, the biggest star names for the stage are people like Hugh Jackman who achieved their greatest fame elsewhere and can use it to bring people to their first love.

I fell off the face of earth, but I clawed my way back to the surface with my bare hands.  Hoo and ray.

I have just entered a particularly hellish hell week for my school’s production of "Hello, Dolly!".  The set has yet to be constructed and the Waiter’s Gallop has yet to be blocked, but the show must go on, and it will be going on on Friday, Waiter’s Gallop or not.

Some terrific stars/potential stars are Raul Esparza, Mary Testa, the young woman who plays Caroline’s daughter in "Caroline, or Change", and Mark Kudisch, among many others.
