NOT NECESSARILY IN THAT ORDER

Well, you've read the notes, the notes were not necessarily in that order, and now it is time for you to post until the unnecessary cows come home.

One does not post before midnight- that would be unseemly!

I'm listening to Classical Collection Friday on BBC Radio 3 right now. At 8am they will broadcast the last segment in Composer of the Week which features Stephen Sondheim.

Well I love my new computer but it is NOT hooked to the inner web yet....I would think that would be possible, since I don't have a wireless connection - but the input is the size of a phone jack NOT my modem connection.

We shall see what transpires.

Good morning, all! I am home today while the super finishes up work on my bathroom ceiling. It will be a quiet day, I hope. I have a trip to the bank first thing this morning to deposit what I forgot to do yesterday. Then I've got a lot of edits to do here on OZ and the Lady with the Slipper.

At 5:00 today I'm meeting a friend I have not seen since the summer of 1972. We lost touch when he moved to Austin for his PhD, and we reconnected on Facebook about a year ago.

TOD:
DVD:  BBC collections of Judi Dench, Maggie Smith, Chekhov and Coward
CD: The Clancy Brothers, Guy Haines, Liz Callaway, Beethoven piano concerti, Offenbach

TOD:

Not sure what I'm going to watch this weekend.  I'm expecting a DVD of SHERLOCK HOLMES, but it might not arrive until next week.

Maybe I'll go rent BROTHERS.  I hear that's pretty good.

That's happened a lot with me on Facebook.  I've reconnected with people I haven't heard from in 40 years.

Good morning!

The forecast said rain this morning, but it got here actually last night, and this morning is simply beautiful. This would have been a gorgeous morning for a walk, but I have to give my legs a rest, and today's the day for that.

I spent some time this morning watching both Takahashi's and Chan's long programs on-line. It's not my favorite way to watch figure skating, of course, since it's harder to see edges and landings in the reduced sized frames of those downloaded broadcasts.

Still, neither of the top two (and I gather from reading about Brian Joubert's skate him either) skated a clean long program. Takahashi made a couple of bobbles on big-point jumps and Chan had two or three sloppy mistakes. I think in an Olympic year, the skaters are exhausted by the time the worlds come around, and I thought both of their skates didn't have the snap of their Olympic performances.

The Universal Sports website had the entire competition, but it takes a lot of buffering to be able to watch a lengthy program like that without the DSL connection pausing occasionally to do additional buffering, and for someone like me who wants to see the skates uninterrupted, it's maddening.

Waiting around to see if the UPS man brings me any additional Criterion discs. Or any other review material for that matter. I would love to get the DVDs of VIVRE SA VIE and SUMMER HOURS just so I could do them before I start on the Blu-ray versions.

I am also going to be working on my taxes this weekend. Instead of doing them in one marathon fir or six hour sesssion like I've done for the last several years, I'm going to split up the work and do some of it tomorrow morning and the rest of it on Sunday morning. I will do my walks on those morning, but I'll put aside the usual workout to accommodate the time being taken up with the tax preparation work.

Well, guess what? The UPS truck just pulled up to the house and my wishes were fulfilled: both the DVDs of SUMMER HOURS and VIVRE SA VIE were in the box.

So, I'll be working on VIVRE SA VIE today and SUMMER HOURS on Sunday. I'll take Saturday off. These don't come out until April 20th, so I can afford to stick a day off in between the two work projects.

Now I guess I'll putter around on the computer a bit and then head downstairs and get ready to go out and do my usual Friday errands.

DR MattH (or any other DR who knows).

RE: placements at the World Championships (for figure skating).

How does it work re: how many places you get next year?

I think if you have someone in the top 10 you get 2 places. And if you have a 1st or 2nd place finisher you get 3 places. If you have 2 people in the top 10 do you get 3 places? Thanks.
