I just watched Matthew Broderick on Who Do You Think You Are.   Interesting.  I hope this show renews interest in geneology

I don't think what happens at FB affects the postings here.  For the most part HHW regular posters share news at both sites.  Sometimes news gathered at FB is shared here, so if anything it adds to the posts & at the least is a washout-some there, some here.

Bruce, I rarely see you comment on anyone's page that we share in common, so how can you possibly know what conversations are going on at FB that are taking people away from here?

Personally, most of my conversations there are with people from other interest groups, mostly animal rescue & my Bernese Mountain Dog Friends.

I see endless stuff at Facebook when I go there to do my very occasional update.

Be sure to check the original date of some of those "Top News" items in your homepage feed. Some of them are days old, maybe even weeks.  If someone happens to post another comment somewhere down the line, it can bring that item back to the "top".

I'll have to pay attention if it brings the comment back to the top if I comment or not.  Sometimes it is annoying the way the feed works & I think I've missed a few things because of it.

I intended to post after the cocktail party last night, but ended up having more wine than I've had in a long time.

Cilla I do want to go out drinking with you again.  I had such a good time that night.

Ah yes, DR Jane and I at the Algonquin!

BK,

Sometimes people have other things they are doing.

Other times, they may not feel they have anything worthwhile to contribute to the discourse.

Good days and bad days.

Thanks DR Jane!  I'm trying to decide if I need to finish painting the bathroom, finish another basement project and clean out the garage before the appraisal.  It would have to happen this weekend.  I won't get it all done, but could do  most of it

And...

I think the one thing that may turn off some potential DRs - if they happen to lurk to check things out - are the posts which talk badly about friends, former-friends, co-workers and colleagues.  While some of that "sharing" may be "dishy" to us, to someone not familiar with us, it may come across as negative, vengeful, petty and hostile.  -Who would want to jump into that fray?

bk - Frankly, the "I'm working with idiots" tone of some of the posts where you talk about the creators of the "long musical" can be off-putting at times.  I know you're trying to be "constructive" with them, but to someone who may be lurking and skimming the posts, checking things out, it may come across as "destructive".

Having a glimpse into the creative process is always, for lack of a better word, is a cool thing. But some aspects of the process may be better shared after the fact.

This site is about YOU.  We know you.  We know your tone.  They don't.

-Just my two cents.

BTW -  I love to play cafe world and zoo world on facebook. When I do, I usually have HHW open too and go back and forth and post if I think there is something to say.  So just because I'm on facebook doesn't mean I'm not here

COMMENTS ABOUT WORLD FIGURE SKATING CHAMPTIONSHIPS MEN'S LONG PROGRAM

DR MattH (or any other DR who knows).

RE: placements at the World Championships (for figure skating).

How does it work re: how many places you get next year?

I think if you have someone in the top 10 you get 2 places. And if you have a 1st or 2nd place finisher you get 3 places. If you have 2 people in the top 10 do you get 3 places? Thanks.

If you have someone in the top ten, you get two places.

If your top two skaters' placements add up to 13 or less, you get three placements for the next season.

Ah okay now i get it. The Canadian commentators knew that the 2nd Canadian had finished no worse than 11th. That is why they said if Patrick Chan got 1st or 2nd place that we would get 3 places next year. I thought it was only because of Patrick. But according to your formula that makes perfect sense. Thanks.

I usually don't have anything to say. Since so much of the discussion here is television and movies, I have nothing to add.

I'm sure you are right Jose, especially the ones about former DR's.

Nah, cleaning the garage really just means moving things around and sweeping it out so it looks bigger.  The project in the basement will probably take me about an hour and the bathroom.....well I may scrub the rest of the wallpaper backing off the wall.  Then it will be ready to paint and won't look too bad the way it is.

I know that appraisers say you don't have to have all the little things done, but it can't hurt

I don't have much to add to the TOD most of the time, but that doesn't seem to stop me from posting.  I'm just not sure anyone is really interested in most of what I say, lol
