At least we've generated some posts with feeling.  And that, to me, is a good thing.  In other words, don't direct all this at ME, as if it were all somehow my fault.  Really :)  But, you know what, I will not be making any more posts about the long musical, nor its creators, nor will I make any posts about the staged reading.  That seems to me the easiest thing to do, since those posts seem to bother certain people or our lurkers.  Certainly the one thing I will NOT do is not tell the truth or speak my feelings.  So, the best decision is to say nothing, I think.

Just save it all for your next book - or maybe the one or two after that: "The Making of The Long Musical".

Oh, ice cream is great medicine!

We just went out for gelato, even though it's kind of cold for it...

It's never too cold for gelato.  Never.

Jose cites posts about the creators of the long musical.  That is me occasionally venting, and since they are unknown to people on this board, exactly who does it hurt?  Everyone vents including, I hate to say it, Jose.  And believe me, you don't want the creators of the long musical on this board, oh, no, you don't want them on this board.

Well... What about the people you cast in the reading of the long musical?  And hired for the demos?  If those people read some of your "venting", do you think that would make them want to be a part of project that has seemingly caused you so much frustration?  Be a part of this board?

I'm not saying that we all have to start censoring ourselves, but since you were asking/looking for potential reasons for a drop in the number of postings, well....

And don't forget:

-Work - Where some DRs are not allowed to post from 9:00-5:00 or 8:00-4:00, etc.
-Doctor's appointments
-Baby-Sitting
-Parent-Sitting
-Pet-Sitting
-Legal Issues
-Job Hunting
-Lack of a house
-Limited internet access
-No laptop
-No iPhone, Blackberry, Smart Phone, etc.

I don't think I've spoken ill of any cast member of this show.  I may have said they weren't right for a role, but that would be the worst of it, I think.  I have curbed doing that long ago.  Not in the notes, not on the board.  The process of this show has been frustrating - it's been a year and I have stuck with it and helped to make it a much better show.  The creators of the show do not visit this site.  The actors in the show do not visit this site.  However, I have said NOTHING on this site about this show that I have not said in MUCH stronger ways to the creators of the show.  But fear not, no more posts about the long musical.  Ever.

I usually don't have anything to say. Since so much of the discussion here is television and movies, I have nothing to add.

And that's okay, too!

I intended to post after the cocktail party last night, but ended up having more wine than I've had in a long time.

Cilla I do want to go out drinking with you again.  I had such a good time that night.

Ah yes, DR Jane and I at the Algonquin!

I want to go drinking at the Algonquin!

Me, too, DR Edi.  Blood thinners, be damned!

I wanna go too, liver be damned!

Well... Maybe just one more post about the long musical...  It's not Wednesday, but...

Just why are you sticking with it?  I know that they approached you about coming on board as a mentor/director, so there must be something that's keeping you on board?  Is it the subject matter? Are there some songs, melodies in the score that really caught your ear? And/or do you see a good commercial future for the project?  Or it simply that you like, that you want to help them?

I popped over to the Universal Sports website and watched Olympic gold medalist Kim Yu-Na skate one of the most pitiful short programs ever for a defending world champion. Sloppy, sloppy, sloppy. She was given VERY generous marks, I think, to end up where she did.

Of course, if she skates a brilliant long program, she could still win, especially if the others wilt. Stephane Lambiel came from that far back to win a competition once, so it is possible especially for a skater who's a judges' darling like she is.

Now I think it's time for me to head downstairs to bed. I'm going to start working on my taxes tomorrow morning after my walk, so I REALLY need to get some rest for that ordeal.

Good night!

If you're really interested the answer is simple - yes, I think there's an interesting show here.  I don't think the creators even knew what the show was about when I came on board.  I have spent a solid year getting the co-authors to try and understand what the show is really about - right from the title to the characters to the way a book functions in a musical.  Have I been successful?  Well, the show now at least has a point and a through line and clarity that it never ever had.  No, it's not all there yet, but it's in sight, I'd say.  The score has some wonderful things in it, none of which were wonderful before the composer and lyricist began working with me.  It's about focus, what works, throwing this out and replacing it with that, etc.  So, after a year, yes, the tunes are good, the lyrics are much better than they were (I am very tough on both and they've been great about pushing themselves harder than they've ever done before and they will tell you that).  I believe I've been very specific in my frustrations, which have to do with egos, bluster, yelling, drama, all of which are unnecessary but which have plagued this project since day one.   That's the story and that's why I've stuck with it through this reading.  And it's a show that will be really fun to direct a full production of, because it can be very visual.

And on that note (C#), it's time for me to go home.  I've got me some TV watching to do and I also need to work on my lines for tomorrow's rehearsal.  I think I have three.  But I sing a lot more, so I guess I should look over the music, as well. ;D

Until later!

I enjoy reading about The Long Musical....but there you are.

I enjoy many more posts here than I don't enjoy.

I also post at Facebook - and less frequently at a couple of other boards and blogs....but this is where I make more posts than anywhere.  Here I am not plagued by Farm Animals and Heart Requests and Zoo Animals and "friends" of friends that I may know.

Nothing stays the same.  The board has changed - I guess I have been here more than five years - but it is still a very nice place to be.  Lots of nice people....although they ebb and flow.

But if we lose someone, another person usually comes along to take the empty seat....and sometimes people do come back.

As far as I am concerned MR BK can say anything he pleases on any subject he chooses.  He pays the bills, and he has given us pretty free reign over his domain.

This is kind of like Lonesome Rhodes Cracker Barrel where a group of people sit around all day and talk about what's on their minds - be it the state of the world or the state of show business.

I have learned many things here, many more things than I have taught, I am sure....I'll probably hang around until somebody turns out the lights - but then that's the way it is.

Cisnet OR Vaio.

Big 10 has their hands full in the NCAA tournament tonight.  Ohio State is out, Purdue is struggling, Michigan State leading by a hair.

I don't feel bad about it. They aren't really MY TEAM.  I was just cheering for them.  UNI has always sort of been considered the ugly step sister of the state universities in Iowa.  Iowa and Iowa State sort of look down on them. It's just the way it is.  I think part of it is that UNI is smaller, but whatever the reason,  this year UNI made it to the sweet 16 and neither Iowa or Iowa State even made the NCAA.   They were really underdogs the whole time and I loved seeing them win.

There was an article in the paper here today that said just making it this far will increase enrollment at UNI - at least that's been the experience of other smaller Cinderella type teams.  UNI really needs it.  They are cutting the budgets of all three state schools across the board.  The problem is Iowa and Iowa State get lots and lots of research money.  UNI, not so much - so the cuts will really hurt them. Hopefully this can give them a big enough bump in enrollment to help out a little

Me three. I've had a very long day.  I tried to convince myself I felt fine this morning, but I didn't.  I've got a lot to do tomorrow both at home and at the office and tomorrow night is the screening of the film festival and I have to stick around after we show all the films and count ballots as fast as possible for the audience choice.  It will be fun, but I need some sleep
