Oh...

And the word of the day is: PULLULATE!
;D  I love TALK TO THE ANIMALS and all the word play.

Is that what DR Ron Pulliam would have been called by Dr. Doolittle?

I think EVERY movie should have a character who dies in the electric chair.

It certainly would have livened up FUNNY GIRL considerably - and in that cast, I vote for Kay Medford.

Wonder why the first three names don't have anything under them.....must be strangers to the producers.

Oh, and "dance music arrangements by David Chase."  Funny, I thought this show had dance music arrangements, and great ones at that.

Isn't it a given by now that (almost) ALL revivals will have "new arrangements", "new songs" and "new dance arrangements"?  Heck, even Encores! usually has David Ives streamline the books of the shows they present.  In any case...

I know, I know... Doesn't make it right.  -But what is "right" in this respect?  Discuss.

What size is the orchestra compared to the original show. Maybe they needed new arrangements to compensate if it's greatly reduced.

I noticed yesterday that my crocus, tulips and daffodils are starting to come up.  I also saw my first Robin yesterday, she was looking for a place to nest

Wow, all of the crocus, tulips, daffodils, and flowering cherry have been in bloom for the last three weeks or so.  Last weekend, I even saw a beautiful camellia bush...tree...shrub inf full bloom.

MattH, arrangements have nothing to do with the size of the orchestra - those are orchestrations, and yes they were reduced by the show's original orchestrator Jonathan Tunick.  Arrangements are something other.

Something was wrong on Thursday night with NBC's transmission of THE OFFICE. Fortunately, it was also available in the HD Showcase On Demand section so I was able to see it without interference. Funny episode as the office mates went to a bar/arcade for drinks after work. Really enjoyed it.

From what I've read, House Is Not A Home is at the end of act one, followed by the little scene that ends act one.  So, it sounds like it comes after Turkey Lurkey Time, but I suppose it might come before it.

Yep, got my terms reversed and I do know better. I was talking about orchestrations.

I also watched 30 ROCK. I loved seeing Cheyenne Jackson teaming up with Alec Baldwin to pull pranks on some jerky writers on the staff, but he still has not been given enouygh to do. Of course, the ensemble is SO big, it's hard to fit all of these knuckleheaded folks into every episode.

I did like Liz's former boy friend and their storyline.

The orchestra is 18 players, about 8 less than the original. but they were smart enough to keep Tunick as the orchestrator.

Then I watched my work project for the day - SUMMER HOURS. It's a meditative look at three generations of family and how a house and the objects therein lose personal importance with each succeeding generation. It's a quiet film and very thoughtfully composed and shot. It's certainly effective in making one think about his own family and objects and places that had meaning now scattered hither and yon. Left me feeling quite melancholy.

I watched all of the bonus features for the set. There's a 30-minute interview with the director, a half hour behind-the-scenes look the the making of the film with interview featuring the director and the two lead stars, and a 50-minute documentary on the objects of art either created for the film or reproduced from works in the Musée d'Orsay in Paris with various curators there discussing the objects and their importance.

There was no commentary and no trailer.

Blooming my yard: Daffodils, camelias, native pachysandra, epimedium (adorable pale yellow blossoms that look like tiny daffodils) lungwort, bloodroot, trillium, summer snowflake, and the japanese magnolias are just starting to bloom. I got a lot of spring gardening cleaning done yesterday, just before the rain. I love spring!

Your garden sounds lovely, Amy. I love all the flowering trees and shrubs.

So, I got the entire package watched this afternoon leaving tonight completely free. Still don't know what I'll watch with the time I have at hand. I have last night's CASTLE rerun and SPARTACUS on the DVR, both of which I'll likely watch. I'll probably save GRAN TORINO for tomorrow since it looks like it's going to be a day off (unless the "Squeakquel" to ALVIN AND THE CHIPMUNKS arrives).

I've always felt there was almost a deliberate stylistic through-line in Tunick's work from Promises, Promises to Company.

Since we have been discussing PROMISES PROMISES on and off, I was looking up Marian Mercer who I loved in the original production.  I was surprised that Wikepedia states that she currently resides in the The Motion Picture & Television Country House and Hospital.  I realize that she would now be almost 75, but I wonder if she is not well?

Living room couch and Ensoniq keyboard are both sold.  Still need a buyer for the teak futon couch.  Oh, and the house.  :)

I'm hopping off-line now to get some writing done. Then I'll head down to clean the guest bath, put away the folded laundry, and then continue with today's viewing.

Company would not exist, orchestration-wise or sound-wise, were it not for Promises.

Oy, the IDIOTS (technical term) who bought the couch are now out in my driveway.  Even though I emailed dimensions of the couch to them, the husband decided he only needed the length (which in fact he missed, too), and so did not measure the opening height of his minivan.  I specifically asked him if he had a truck and he said, "Yes," but of course showed up with a minivan.  So it took us quite a bit of finagling to finally get the damned thing in, finally upside down and diagonally tilted.  His back hatch is tied semi-closed.  Tune in for news reports of the couch on I5 northbound on tonight's news.  :)

Well, I have had a busy morning.
I placed flowers on the altar at church this morning in Dad's memory - it's five years to the day since he died.
Dixie Bell and I walked around the Drainage Authority, where she decided that mud is a good thing. . .NOT to me.
Had a half hour rehearsal for the solo I'm singing on Easter Sunday as well as the song I'm performing with the choir. . .
This will be my solo number next week:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0TgTwzvP6rI

On my wish list:  a gospel choir to back me up and Michael Ball's wardrobe. . . .

Or, just Michael Ball.

DR JMK - Former "Gourmet" editor, Ruth Reichl, will be heading to Portland today as per her Twitter account:

@ruthreichl Leaving Tacoma, heading to Portland. Planning to wander the streets, eating all day. Can't wait. Suggestions?

It also looks like her alter-ego/Anthony Bourdain mash-up will be too:

@ruthbourdain Leaving Tacoma & never coming back. Heading to Portland. No hotel. Planning to wander the streets like a gypsy, eating all day. Can't wait.

;)

Why in the Hell were they in Tacoma?

June Havoc has died. I met her around 1984, and she was very kind.
