JR, please to tell this half-Jew:  where exactly does one procure a St. Joseph statue?

There used to be shops all over Amsterdam Avenue carrying Madonnas, Bleeding Hearts, and medals. So much for gentrification of the neighborhood. Now it's mostly bars.

And drunks.

Good morning!

Much warmer this morning for my walk (45), and with spring in the air and trees beginning to bloom, the air has a lovely scent to it (I'm not bothered by pollen so to me it smells good). Really enjoyed my walk and my workout this morning.

I'm still catching up with the men's long programs at the world figure skating championships. Last night I watched Brian Joubert's program. This morning I watched Adam Rippon's which was (except for a step out of his first triple axel) a lovely, inspired skate. I am so excited to see him continue to develop over the next few years.

I wanted to also watch Michel Brezina's skate (who had a better scored free skate than Brian Joubert but finished in 4th). He did not impress me at all at the Olympics so I'm eager to see what he brought to the rink in Torino.

Today I'll be working on SUMMER HOURS, a 2008 French film. I read the liner notes this morning, and it's a domestic drama. Other than that, however, I know little about it, and I had never heard of the director.

With nothing on TV tonight for me, I'll try to clear some things off the DVR tonight after I finish working on SUMMER HOURS. I still have THE OFFICE/30 ROCK (which I'll likely watch while eating lunch), and also SPARTACUS from Friday night. And I recorded GRAN TORINO, too, but I doubt I'll have time to watch an entire movie tonight. We'll see.

I think EVERY movie should have a character who dies in the electric chair.

It certainly would have livened up FUNNY GIRL considerably - and in that cast, I vote for Kay Medford.

Then SACCO AND VANZETTI qualifies!

Now, about PROMISES, PROMISES. Is this only going to be a modified Encores staging at the Broadway or are they doing the full-out show? If they are doing the complete, full out production, the Broadway (which is admittedly a huge theater) would be an acceptable venue given the lack of prime musical houses being tied up by long running hits.

I mean, I saw the original at the Shubert which, though not as large as the Broadway, is still a full size musical house.

And the word of the day is: PULLULATE!

What Ron's boss says to him when he doesn't make it to work on time?

I noticed yesterday that my crocus, tulips and daffodils are starting to come up.  I also saw my first Robin yesterday, she was looking for a place to nest

Today I must work on the front yard and if it gets warm enough, powerwash the stone on the front of the house.  there's some sort of weird white stuff that looks like salt.  Maybe it's from my roof melt or maybe it's something else, but it looks bad and with the appraisal coming up, I need to work on it.

I also want to clean out the garage and get the outdoor furniture put back out.  It will be nice to get some exercise and fresh air.  I'd also like to go to the green house and look into some lilac bushes.  I have some on the back that are old and will bloom, but I'd like to plant some in the front along the sidewalk.   I got some other ideas from the old photos of the house.

It's been threatening to rain all morning, but it hasn't started yet. I had thought about mowing the front yard, but I'll hold off now because it really looks like it's going to start any minute.

Now I must head downstairs and get clothes ready for washing (a Sunday ritual), food prepared for lunch, and then settle in on today's work project.

My laundry is now in the dryers. There must be a full moon because people are acting loony this morning: I got to the laundromat to find people had already removed my clothes from the washer (I hate that since I was no more than 5 minutes late) to start loading their own ton - if I had a week's worth of laundry, they have a month's! - and then when I got back to my building and I was talking to the super, a first floor neighbor got off the elevator and the super started giving him hell about leaving his garbage, all the while the neighbor said he didn't do anything wrong! The neighbor above me is now out of bed and clumping around.

So far, this morning, I've redone two book shelves, worked on securing a CD case, and done my laundry. I'm tired again.

Quote from elmore yesterday:

I am back from a great rehearsal with dramatic soprano Margaret Jane Wray, one of the funniest ladies I know. She's here for AIDA at the Met and she's one of the best. Here's a photo of her in AIDA in Wales.

Ok, time to get started on some projects.  It's still to do the outside chores, but I can start laundry and another inside project.

I think I mentioned that I watched THE EDDIE CANTOR STORY last week.

The best part of it was the songs that Cantor recorded himself.

After watching the picture, I did a little research, and learned that the "Rocky Kramer" character in the movie (Gerald Mohr), Eddie's childhood friend who grows up to be a mobster and, subsequently, dies in the electric chair, was inspired by Louis Lepke, founder of Murder, Inc.

Funny - I suspected that it was based on Lepke.  Funnier: When I was trying to tell this team why Lepke's opening number (Lepke is a major character in the long musical) wasn't right (they had him very whiny throughout the show - and I finally got them to change that), they asked what it should be and I said it should be a positive up number called I Own This Town (my title).  Well, when we first meet the adult "Rocky Kramer" in Eddie Cantor one of his first lines is "I'm gonna own this town."

The FULL moon is tomorrow night, DR ELMORE - but the craziness HAS already started.

And this is the first WISHING moon of the year - so take advantage of it.

Yes, Promises was a big, splashy show in the Shubert.  If they were doing it correctly, the Broadway should be fine.

Directed AND choreographed by Rob Ashford.

Well I guess at least they didn't get Robert Longbottom in there - maybe he was too busy screwing up BYE BYE BIRDIE and DREAMGIRLS when they asked him.

Well I gave my niece a bath (she insisted i take it with her). And then we went to the library and the mall. And now we are going to eat french toast.

Tomorrow is Passover so this will be our last day of bread (well my last day not hers).
