Don't mention the Jet Blue sale to my folks - They're flying to NY from Florida tomorrow and with those prices might be tempted to fly into Hartford.  Kidding, just kidding, but I am glad their route isn't on there.  :)  :)

Rent is over and has been put to  bed.  And like Morales. I felt nothing.  I don't believe the cast and I were ever on the same "level" when it came to the material.  And it seemed that my passion for this work (and others, because this feeling happens a lot when I close a show) was on a different level than that of the cast.  Yes, it was a good solid show, the reviews were great, the audiences loved it, but there was no passion for the material.  Yes, they loved to sing the songs - and they sang them very well - but there was nothing behind it.  No matter how hard you try, you can't teach passion.

Druxy, the Oregonian obit mentioned only a daughter of Horne.

She did have a son who predeceased her...but I have no idea if he was the guy who came up to my office that day.

I came in and tried to wake up the computer only it wouldn't wake up - then I noticed the router light and modem lights were all off.  Then I looked at the rest of the kitchen stuff - all working.  Odd.  I went to the main power strip - it looked fine.  I moved the plug a little in towards the socket and voila.  So, I don't know why, suddenly, arbitrarily, the plug would have come a tiny bit loose, but everything is fine now.

Had the same problem on Saturday.  Turns out the cleaning lady decided to dust the router.

Nice hearing about Elena Kagan's Supreme Court nomination.  She was at law school literally after me (I graduated spring 1983, she started law school fall 1983, i think).  I was told that I'd met her and actually talked to her for a while when I went back for a visit in spring 1984, that she was at a student group function that I was at, but she wasn't THE "Elena Kagan" then.   (I do remember Eliot Spitzer and especially his wife Silda quite well from my law school days, but they were students while I was there, or maybe I have a sense of future scandal brewing.  :) )

I MAY HAVE MET ELENA KAGAN - the title of my next essay

Awaiting CDs.  I think I feel a little better than yesterday, although there's still a bit of queasiness.  So, after we're done shipping I'll see if I feel I can get some food down - maybe some toast or a poached egg on toast or something like that.  And then the afternoon will be resting on the couch.

There is lots of activity at the vacant rental house across the street. I think the eyesore will finally be made presentable again.

That is all.

Today is my day off, before we begin our massive Payment Correction project at work.  It is good practice for me, in case I don't receive one of the "Exempt Letters" from my employer regarding our new Furlough of State Employees.  Furloughs begin on July 12.

I plan on spending most of the day reading a new book that I received from a brash young author that I dined with on Friday night.

DR VIXMOM - or anyone.....this is a small Photo Resizer that is a free shareware.  I use it a lot.....you can resize individual photos or a BATCH of them.  Easy to use and doesn't take much space.

What's wrong with Roxio Resizer?   :D

I saw Roxie O'Resizer in SUGAR BABIES.

BK, when you go to the post office, stop by a store and pick up some Ginger Ale.  It really does help.

BK, you did actually mail me your book. It was waiting for me upon my return to Salem on Saturday.

I am now listening to the CD at this moment, which is a wonderful treat!

Now that I have some time to sit and write about my trip to the HHW gathering in Olympia, Washington to see THE BRAIN FROM PLANET X....

First off it was so wonderful to see my HHW neighbors friends to the north, TCB, George, and Ann. I just adore these three people! It was a shame that DR Jed could not join us, but understandable...someone has to stay home with our first HHW baby, Toby.

It was great to have a chance to chat each, and I look forward to the next time we all get together!

TOD: I guess my favorite suspense film would have to be "M," largely because of Peter Lorre's mesmerizing performance, which helps keep you nervous as the film progresses. Of all of Hitchcock's films, "Suspicion" keeps me going until the hokey ending -- and perhaps it is because the ending feels so wrong that, in its twisted way, it works so well.

The "hokey" ending makes it a surprise ending.  I think if the movie were filmed today it would have begun to end the way we suspected it would, but then the heroine would somehow find an inner strength & triumph.

It was also a great pleasure to meet David Wechter.

I did meet him very briefly when I was in LA to see the first production of THE BRAIN FROM PLANET X, however this time I actually got to sit and chat with him at length and I can say that David is such a nice guy and I was especially thrilled to find that he had directed two of the most wonderful character actors ever (in the 1980s film MALIBU BIKINI SHOP), Frank Nelson and Kathleen Freeman. I must now seek out this film, which sadly is not yet on DVD.

Next time I am in LA I will make it a point to at least have lunch with David, if he is available. Just a very neat guy to talk to.

DR Druxy, according to IMDB, Lena Horne had 2 children by her first husband.

But the son has since passed away.

This was very disheartening to read this morning...

Critical backlash at Julie Andrews’ “tragic” stage return

This is sad, but really...how could one expect her to sing?

And of course it is always a wonderful experience to be in the company of BK. He never fails to crack me up and it is a joy to listen to his stories of working in show business, growing up in Los Angeles, or just plain gossiping!

And of course, if it were not for him, I would not have met so many fantastic new friends from all across the country.

(Has David ever posted on HHW? Was he by chance DR Dave in the Valley?)
