DR Laura, I'm so sorry to hear that a place you love is being destroyed by fire. They said it was "human caused". Do you know what happened? Vibes that all the critters can escape to safety.

Good Morning!

I'm up, I'm up... And I believe I'm going to try to escape to the Park in a bit. I hope.

And now I am off to get ready for the Open House for the theatre.

We need photos of DR JMK's new home now that he is settled in.

Yes, they believe they know how it was started, but I'm afraid the answer is not politically correct and that I might be bashed on a message board for saying.

Again, hope no one minds that I'm just posting these, as some people trying to fight unemployment insurance seem to refuse to accept that doing these videos are an effort to FIND writing work, as opposed to BEING actual work.  If any of the Guests here do industrial shows, please take note.

Chiricahua (Horseshoe) fire update

Date: Sat, May 29, 2010, 11:45 PM
The Portal community just finished an informative, sober meeting with
the supervisors of the fire team working to contain the Horseshoe
Fire.
...
It is going to be a very difficult, very large fire and will most
likely burn until the monsoon rains arrive. Right now just over 1200
acres have burned in the heart of the Chiricahua Wilderness. If the
fire burns to the perimeter lines they've established, it could go to
35,000 - 40,000 acres. For comparison, the Rattlesnake Fire of the
1990s burned 29,000 acres.

They see no way of keeping the fire out of South Fork; what they will
concentrate on is manipulating the fire when possible to lower its
intensity, to avoid as much as possible the catastrophic, stand-
replacing fire that we had with the Rattlesnake. They will also
concentrate on protecting the old growth riparian corridor along South
Fork. They are very aware of its high biological value.

The fire investigators say that the fire was human-caused, and that it
is virtually certain that illegal immigrants are responsible, again.
It began at Burro Springs, near the ridge of Horseshoe and South Fork
canyons.

Another good reason for comprehensive immigration reform.  If you didn't have to sneak across the border you wouldn't have to build a fire in the wilderness

It's officially Paul's birthday today, so I met him for coffee and gave him a card.  It's his regular coffee place so i announced it was his birthday and they gave him cake with a candle and sang happy birthday. He was pleasantly surprised.  It was fun

Then I came home and started scrubbing walls.  It's going pretty well, but will take time.  I did the area behind the door first so I can leave it open and get some air.  But I am going to take lots of breaks.  It's only in the 60s outside so I won't get overheated today

I watched INVASION USA a few years back and once was enough. I do like Gerald Mohr, but Peggy Castle does nothing for me, although as a person I would be most intersted in knowing more about her.

I think I may watch BOY AND THE PIRATES today. I have had the DVD for a long time, but have not even cracked it open.

Well, I still have lots more to plant and am trying to talk myself into getting back out there. Maybe I won't do as much digging today.

For the first time, we've had a professional come and spray the back yard for mosquitoes. We have a terrible problem with it, being in a flood plain. It's not something we'd ever considered doing but we've been eaten alive by them this year. I really noticed the difference yesterday, especially when a neighbor came over in short and flip flops and I didn't see a single mosquito on her. Amazing that it worked that well!

Another good reason for comprehensive immigration reform.

Careful what you wish for - a plan that included unconditional amnesty would put you out of work :D

On the other hand - a plan that provided conditional roads to green-cards would keep you fully employed
