Jose was here yesterday at 5:40 NY time according to the log but even if he wasn't just because he hasn't been here today doesn't mean he's left. Sometimes life intervenes. People can't post every hour of every day.

Fred was last here on the 4th but he's been busy with other things as well.

I'm sure, when Jose returns, if we need to know why he hasn't been here, he will tell us.

Also, why do you assume we even know what's going on with Jose. Just because we, in NY are friends, doesn't mean we are in constant contact. People don't not want to answer the question, we just don't have an answer.

Relax, please.

I'm perfectly relaxed, actually.  But, given what's gone on here the last year, I'm always concerned when someone doesn't show up for a while.   I spoke to FJL last week and I understand he's dealing with stuff.

Can't say periwinkle anymore - it's as bad as the "n" word, the "k" word, and the "f" word.

So, I finally heard from the helper.  I knew something had to be bad and apparently it was - she had awful food poisoning and had a friend taking care of her - and she was just OUT.  Having recently had food poisoning I understand how one can be OUT.  So, we'll speak a little later and see if we want to continue.  I'm sure we will at least for the next few weeks - lots of stuff to deal with.

Ginny, if you are going to be gone for several days, you need to stock up extra posts ahead of time.  Either that or you can give Richard your password and he can post and pretend he is you.   ;D

Oh, I won't be totally gone, DR TCB, but will be with my mother, who might not understand that one can post here and still be engaged in conversation.  Also, 2 of those days, I'll be driving I-74, and haven't figured out a way to use my laptop and drive at the same time!

Do NOT say periwinkle.  The word police might show up and then we might end up on some chat board with demands from the young and uppity for apologies.  I, however, will NEVER apologize for using the word PERIWINKLE.

I find it very easy to use the laptop whilst driving - I also text at the same time.  I just do it the same way everyone else in LA does.

We no longer have cable, having moved to a digital box attached to our television from 2000 and an over the air antenna but last night I was re-scanning because bad weather can cause a channel to drop from the box. In the re-scan I found we are getting a new "sub" channel along with our local WPIX Channel 11. We now get

This TV

It's a joint venture between film/TV studio Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and Chicago-based Weigel Broadcasting. Unfortunately, they also chop up the movies with as many commercials as they can fit.

They are showing Attack of the Puppet People Saturday evening at 11PM!

They also show some old television shows, including the Patty Duke Show and Sea Hunt.

You can also watch a limited number of movies on line "with limited commercial interruption" One of the movies available is "Still of the Night" starring Meryl Streep and Roy Scheider. I did background work in that movie in the spring of 1981. It's a dreadful movie but I was clearly available in the auction scene when Mr. Scheider walked up the aisle. I look about 12 years old.

This channel is available here, too, but I don't think about it very much...I need to channel surf more often.  A few days ago, my dad told me that channel 75 (in our area) is a 24-hour "Classic Arts Showcase" channel.  I had no idea!  I love "Classic Arts Showcase." ;D

Have I mentioned how happy I am with what I heard today?  To hear Mr. Orbach not go flat (and others, too) well, I have to believe it would make the late Mr. Orbach happy.

Hi all!

I just wanted to pop in and share the good news that I made it past the first cut at work.

I've been so scared these past couple of weeks because they told us there was going to be some MAJOR job cuts.  Our department (Public Works as a whole) lost 63 positions alone.

The worst part was that they changed the policy about bumping.  Instead of being able to bump county wide, you are only allowed to bump in your own department.  County wide I was the safest person there was because I was in the exact middle but within our department only, I'm number 3 of 3.

It isn't over yet until the board votes on the new budget sometime in August/September.  Everything is subject to change between now and then so it's going to be a very stress filled couple of months.

But for now, the day the budget was presented to the Board, I am safe.

I told people it makes you know what it feels like to be a deer or a duck and hunting season has just opened on YOU!

Thanks, DR George.

I hate to say it but I'm getting so very tired of going though this year after year.  They tell us that next year will be even worse.  Slap me if I can think HOW it could be much worse.  63 people out of work today with more cuts to come.  It's not right.

In honor of the TOD, I put on Brett Barrett's Alan Jay Lerner CD in the car today and was struck once again by how good so many of the songs from "Lolita, My Love" are. "In the Broken Promise Land of Fifteen" is just stunning.

Peaceful, relaxing vibes, DR Danise. I've been without permanent employment since March of last year and somehow the good Lord has kept me from going insane as I continue to look for work. I was one of 175 let go on what I now refer to as the Ash Wednesday Massacre, since that was the day of the announcement.

One of my sisters, meanwhile, has survived more than two dozens rounds at her job, and she's been told on everyone to expect the worst. I find that psychological torture and wonder how employers can behave that way.
