We have arrived in lovely (and, yes, I am being ironic this time) Big Timber, Montana, which lives up to neither of its names.  :)  We're in a surprisingly clean, old-fashioned hotel for the evening.  Because we have no set plans, we decided on the spur of the moment to detour south tomorrow and we will take the kids to Mt. Rushmore, which I have never seen.

I've spent the early evening on the first four episodes of ELI STONE Season 2. I think I will have a little soup and take my meds. I was just looking at a calendar for 2006. At this time then I was in Ohio dealing with another of my dad's ER crises after the chemotherapy nearly destroyed him. July 5 was on a Wednesday in 2006; it's a memorable day because it was the day the drunken Macbeths showed their true ugly colors to my dad and did their best to kick me around and assert my deserving no inheritance from my dad. It's one of my most memorable holidays.

I still hate them.

If I stayed up that late, I could still see some of the fireworks up north in both Federal Way and some in Seattle.

I didn't realize prohibition ended when the gov't needed money following the stock market crash.

We drove and drove and drove to get to Mount Rushmore; it was covered in fog. We did, however, see George Washington's nose.

We referred to that trip as "Fog Across America," since everything we saw seemed to be enveloped in fog.

Greetings from Lansing, MI!  We drove here after having lunch and making a hospital call in Lima.  Mary Linda's parents had a lovely dinner and now we're all settled into her grandparents' home for the next 2 nights.  Everybody else has gone downtown to see fireworks, but Richard and I opted to stay home and listen to the ones in the neighborhood.  The engagement party is tomorrow afternoon.

By the way, Michigan doesn't "feel like Michigan."  I expected when we crossed the state like that the temperature would drop 20 degrees and the humidity would dissipate.  No such luck - today Michigan feels like SW Ohio.

I'm back from a marvelously marvelous partay at Tony Slide and Bob Gitt's home environment - it was the usual assortment of fun folks - Norman Lloyd, Marsha Hunt, Jack Larson, Kevin Thomas, my dear adorable John Scott and several others.  I had mostly salads - a green salad, a little three bean salad and a tiny bit of pasta salad.   And a little tiny bit of peach pie for dessert.

I shot a little hi-def movie on my iPhone and have sent it to myself via mobile me - now, is there anywhere I can house it so everyone can see it?

Got a phone call from my buddy Mark in Wyoming. His brother-in-law Kyle was in a terrible car accident today. Kyle is a police officer and was on duty when an out of control car hit his patrol car head on.

Kyle's police dog was killed and Kyle is in the hospital with a broken neck, among other injuries. At this point it is unknown if Kyle will be able to walk again. That was as much info as Mark had as of yet.

Kyle just lost his wife Cherly (Mark's sister) to cancer last year.

Kyle and Cherly visited Oregon several times when Mark was living here...that couple always would crack me up, and they were both very supportive of Mark when he came out of the closet about 7 years ago.

I tried to go out and watch the fireworks, but they are so close to the house that the house shook on each boom and Boo was totally freaking out.  So, I watched one or two and came in .  She was waiting for me and followed me everywhere.  After a little cuddling, she's curled up on my lap and seems a bit more relaxed

We found a shaded rock to sit on that partially hid us from the dog police.

If you want to hide Sherlock in the shadow of a rock, I suggest a visit to Mt. Rushmore.
