I had to get up at 4:00 A.M. so of course the people around me in the hotel were up making lots of noise until about 3:30 AM

I did go to the event last night and had a very nice conversation wtih Jon Krakauer.  He is a very down to earth personable guy.  I didn't go back to the hotel early as I should have....oh well

Customs was uneventful as was screening and getting through to the gate.   The flights were on time (for the most part) and it was a smooth trip home.

It is already 75 degrees here, as of 9:00 a.m.  We are going for a record today.  They are saying at least 95.

It's 94° in Tumwater right now!

It's only 108 here.

They said it would get up to 113 today.

By 3:00 PM I was sound asleep and didn't wake up until 6:30 PM.   I'm still very tired, but am afraid if I keep sleeping I'll be up for the day about 2:00 AM.  So i'm going to stay up and go to bed at my usual time

The girls were VERY glad to see me.  I had a great trip but it's really nice to be home. I have an incredibly busy week coming up at work.  I just hope I can get enough sleep tonight to be rested in the morning

OKAY NOW MY KEN BERRY

It is nothing against him, but I was very embarrassed when we talked. The set up was this.
 1) Mr. Berry was guesting on my friend Julie Amato's variety program in the late 70's. It was taped in Montreal.
2) I had just finished reading "CBS: Reflections In Bloodshot Eye".
 3) Berry was mentioned in the book along with his wife Jackie Joseph who I knew from her television.
 4) During a break in his featured bit (He was sing and dancing to "I'm Just A Song And Dance Man". We chatted. I asked him Mayberry RFD (what RFD meant)
5) Here's where the embarrassing moment came: I asked him, "...And how is your lovely wife Jackie Joseph?"  He replied We're Divorced.
I apologized and told him i just read about him. He said Don't believe everything you read.

Oh I don't need assistance, I was out like a light the minute my head hit the pillow, but I would have had to sleep for 15-16 hours from when I started my nap to get up at the usual time tomorrow.  Not likely, so I'll stay awake for awhile and try to get back on schedule

Hello, everyone.

Add me to the group that does NOT have any Ken Berry stories. (But I loved your post, JMK.)

The only story that I have with a Ken Berry reference was that he was supposed to play Buddy in the 5th Avenue/TUTS  production of Follies that I saw in 1995 or so, but he ended up not doing it.  I don't remember who played Buddy, but he wasn't a "name"...maybe he was a local guy.

Right now, I'm watching the region 4, Australian release of "Ice Blues" with Chad Allen.  I got a copy from eBay for less than $30 (including shipping).  But it's FINALLY being released in the US...November 9...even though it'll be almost half the price that I paid. ::)

Just back from the excellent Fringe play about Hurricane Katrina that DR Julie's been working on (and which Maureen Silliman is fabulous in)

It's 81 here.  I think it was hotter while I was gone.  It was actually pretty warm in Toronto.  Of course I didn't know how to convert the temperature, so I didn't know how warm it was.  I think that made it easier to just go deal with it

I'm sure they're fine! ;D

Jeanne, if you felt it was comfy today in LA, you're a better woman than I am.  Or something like that.  :)  It was WAY too hot for me.  That said, we're now in a little dustbowl of a town called Buttonwillow which, if anything, is even hotter than it was in LA earlier.  Buttonwillow has 4 gas stations, 2 hotels, a Denny's and (I kid you not) a Vegan Indian (as in far east) restaurant.  I had one of their veggie wraps and it was quite delish.

Dinner completed. Grilled steak, grilled asparagus, sauteed string beans, some funky pasta w/butter, and fruit salad (which I passed on sadly).  Cleaning up and getting ready to pack the car for the EARLY morning trip.  The kids slept through dinner, in fact, they have been sleeping almost since they got here.  Last week, they vacationed at the shore in Maryland and then came home Saturday and left at 6:00am this morning to come the west coast.  I told them about our journey tomorrow and they seemed excited.
