I think the only thing interesting about Barnes and Noble are there discount remaindered books.  Other than that it is another undisintinguished chain that carries only the best sellers and most popular and has limited variety.  No different than a Borders or anywhere else.  I've peculiar taste and the books I want to buy (those that aren't used), I can get through Amazon cheaper and easier.   I miss the excitement of the hunt and browsing a bookstore, but the truth is, except for a few independents, they all carry the same stuff and it's all fairly mainstream.

The truly sad thing is the loss of the used bookstore, but I'm sure for most of those dealers, it's easier to go online without the overhead of maintaining a shop.  With the demise of interesting book and record stores, shopping has sure gotten boring.

According to the DP, the apple fritter is made from scraps of old donuts and mixed together with an apple filling thing and then deep fried.  Can't think of anything better.

I always hated apple fritters.

From what I understand - since I know one of the managers of another store in that "Triangle" - the rent on that space is almost doubling.  Further south and east, the Disney Store decided to shut down their Fifth Avenue location more than a year before their new Times Square "Interactive" location opens.  They were driven out by an astronomical rent increase too.

Disney can't afford the rents there?! Who on earth is going to go into that location?

Looks like DR GINNY survived the drive....and so did the rest of Ohio.

Now that she is safely off the road - it's my turn to head out.....to rehearsal.  The rumor is that we have lights.....with the sound arriving tomorrow......

Hopefully they remember BACKSTAGE lights too....since we are climbing up and DOWN some uneven steps....at least they hadn't been fixed last week....maybe today!

Hopefully also my wife is off book and line strips and whatever else she was using last week.....TIME WILL TELL.

Later.................

HELLO EVERYBODY, MY NAME IS TCB!  WHAT'S YOURS?

I have returned from a half day of work, followed by a Ginsu Knife demonstration on my armpit.

Welcome Back, DR TCB!

And how soon will that Ginsu Knife demo be up on YouTube?

Although my doctor seems to be a little sadistic, I am not sure that he has started filming the procedures yet.  However, I am having a full physical in a couple of weeks if you would like to order the DVD set.

I believe Mr. BK took those photos.  Here was there that night and is the only one not in the pix.  We were all out at Musso & Frank's, then ice cream on Hollywood Blvd.

Yesterday DR Jane wrote:
We took our friend to see SHE LOVES ME and she loved it.  Even Keith said it was the best play we saw all season.   The female lead had a terrific voice.

I am so jealous. I love this musical but have never seen it live. I used to listen to the Ruthie Henshall version over and over ...

I'm just catching up on the Emmys posts from last night.

I'm reading about BK's rant about Jewel singing (the In Memorium section).

I absolutely loved it.  I did not think it was all about her. But it was extremely moving for her to sing an unreleased song that she wrote for a friend of hers who died.

I was happy that Kyra won. We only just finished season 4 here (I wish I got TNT or could see seasons 5 and 6 now). I think she is fantastic. It's funny when I hear her talk not as Brenda it sounds so funny.

However there were a bunch of others nominated in her category who I also think are wonderful. I actually thought Juliana from The Good Wife might win (she was great last season).

Rehearsal is done.  Very rough in spots, but everyone is getting comfortable with their stuff now.  Great to hear the wonderful Pam Myers belting out her songs.  Damon is terrific, as is Jason, and Lesli and Alet are fantastic.  They're all rough on lyrics, but for those who need it we will have a music stand on which they can put their lyrics.  Reservations are very healthy with thirty-two dinners, which the club owner is thrilled about - and I have the feeling that a lot of people will just be showing up for the show itself - the hope is to have at least fifty, and we're almost at forty now.  The good news is that forty in that room looks great.

Now I must go eat something.  The question is what?  If I'm to have an apple fritter and a cinnamon roll (what I'm craving) then I have to eat really lightly, so maybe I'll mosey on over to Jerry's and have some eggs or a turkey sandwich with no fries or onion rings.

Speaking of books, and in relation to a TOD from the other week, I have  become hooked on a new (to me) series of mystery books about a little old spinster lady in Los Angeles who get's herself involved in solving murders.

The series is the Rachel Murdock mysteries by D. B. Olsen (aka Delores Hitchens) and each book has the word "Cat" in the title.

Right now I am reading DEATH WALKS ON CAT FEET.

I had read a previous mystery by this author and decided to try some of her other books (she wrote mainly during the 40s and 50s), and I am very glad that I did.

From MBarnum:
Quote
My only gripe with tonights Emmys was that the IN MEMORIAM did not show Connie Hines, star of MISTER ED.

I mean, that is an iconic show! And Connie Hines did more television then Patricia Neal did.

Without having watched the Emmy's I can still agree she should have been included.
