Back from delivering CDs.  I fired up the laptop to make sure everything was updated for the trip, and got that disgusting mobile me sync alert - I clicked on what I thought we'd done last time I had this problem, but now all my updates and sync things from the last three weeks are gone from the laptop (if they were ever there) and the iPhone - they're still on the iMac, thankfully, so I'm waiting to "chat" with a mobile me expert so we can fix this damn thing again for the fourth time.  Luckily, I still have the case number from last time.

"Chat" expert won't be on for another fifteen minutes or longer - it's so irritating that you can't call about this issue.

Well, this seems to be the year for me to be randomly chosen: first the nosy census, and now the gas company just knocked on the door to inform me that our gas line is going to be partially dug up and checked. I expect the jury summons any day now.

I have never tried fries with ranch dressing. In fact I've never even seen them served together. Is this common?

I've never been to a place where you're automatically given ranch with your fries, but it's very common for people to ask for it.  You should try it! :)

It must be something from the States cause I've never heard of it here and seriously doubt they would supply it.

I would hope that if a restaurant serves ranch dressing for salads, you could ask for a side of ranch, even if you don't have a salad.

Zip Line vibes for DR JOHNG

Did not get to go on the zip line. A friend I was with fell of a platform at the beginning and banged herself up really badly. She then passed out forcing us to tend to her needs rather than zip lining. Her husband escorted her in the ambulance while we followed. She's been released and all seems to be well. A rather different adventure from the one we set out on, but the outcome is all that is important here.

Somehow, DR RON, I think our DRs can often spot Uranus.

Really?  I always figured Uranus was very easy to see without needing binoculars or a telescope!

BK: Do you have any rituals when you hit NYC? Any stops you have to make first or something you have to do when you get there?

I used to but now all the record and DVD and book stores I'd immediately go to are gone - so only Joe Allen's.
I hear ya. It's really sad they've all vanished into the blue.

Oof!  Sorry about that, and sorry for your friend.  How high was that platform?

Probably no more than 3 feet, but it was also on a sort of slope and it was rocky. Joan has a knot on her arm and she thought she had a sprained wrist, but the wrist seems to be OK.

Sorry about your friend, JohnG.

It makes a much better story about falling off the zip-line if you leave out the part about "three feet."

She can say that she fell down a cliff.

Really, I am sorry to hear about the accident. I'm glad to know she'll be ok. Wrist injuries are difficult. It affects so much of your daily living. I'm glad it wasn't broken.

OK, major geekfest alert.  I am very excited as today in the mail I got a promo copy of the Complete Works of J.S. Bach.  This is a stupendous undertaking (Elmore at least probably knows about, maybe some others), and consists of 172 CDs plus various other items, all in a huge boxed set.  I begin listening momentarily.

This is turning out to be quite the Farmer-intensive week.  I'm helping this Professor author with her article and I just received a desperate email from Bruce Hershenson's site asking for clarification on some Farmer pics they have.  Why do I never get paid for any of this?  :)

JohnG I want to zip line.  It looks like fun.  My physical therapist said I can't if I have to use my shoulder to do it.  I want to read all about it.

DR Jane, I have yet to hear a peep out of any of my neighbors. These walls and floors are very, very thick. The only noise I hear is the traffic outside.

:) regarding the quiet neighbors.  The sounds of traffic bother me.  I hope you don't mind it.

My new neighbor wants to build a garage in a place where there really isn't room for a garage.  He'll probably have to get a variance to do it. Tonight I was looking out and if he does it my view will be totally cut off, which in my opinion will effect my property value. I'm going to find out if he's applied for the permit and variance yet and what I have to do to object.  One other neighbor is planning to object to a variance. I think i will too.  He says it will be tasteful, but he's got the place looking pretty junky with the way he parks cars willy nilly in the grass etc.

Oh no.  So many times a person applies and gets approval for something moderate & tasteful & and then builds whatever.
