DR JMK, we were warned by the media that fall colors here would be disappointing because it had been so dry during the summer. We're not disappointed.

I had trouble falling asleep last night and didn't get a lot of sleep. I'm also sneezing and coughing, so I, too, would like a quiet day. I have a few things to take care of, but that is all.

I'm not a big pizza fan. The only pizza that comes to mind was from GENEROUS GEORGE'S in Alexandria, VA. I know DR Jose knows this place--or, knew it. Sadly, it succumbed to the recession about a year or so ago. That in itself is amazing. It was always packed when I went there.

My mom loves pizza and used to make it all the time when we were kids. I thought it looked disgusting and would never eat it. But one day, @ 3rd grade, I was at a friend's house and we were both really hungry. She found some pizza in the fridge so we each had a slice. Even cold, I liked it. So I've been eating pizza ever since.

My favorite pizza place, decor-wise: John's Pizzaria in Times Square.

Character-wise: Totonno's at Coney Island

Everybody sits at a big table and they bring you a pizza on a big square metal pan. No frills, just tasty pizza.

Apparently summer wasn't quite finished with LA yet and is back with a vengeance - high 90s today - disgusting.

Spent close to two and a half hours in storage facility - moving boxes, and most interestingly going through boxes I haven't been able to get to in nine years. That was fascinating and I found so many interesting things - including the reel-to-reel tapes that I couldn't find when prepping the CD for the new book - that's the most infuriating thing of all - all these great rare tracks just sitting there - perhaps I'll do a volume two. Also found several non-fiction books that I have since re-purchased because I could not find them - now we know why. I threw out a TON of papers and old magazines - just didn't see the need for any of it. That includes some files from my office - I kind of glanced at them - old contracts, publicity stuff, notes - all trashed. Thankfully, one file I happened to go through was really important and I pulled that - it had incredible stuff in it, including a cassette of all my songs that I'd written for that musical Yearbook - so now I have Three Friends to listen to in its entirety (rather than the abbreviated clip on You Tube). We still have about seven boxes to go through - the new space is so much bigger and now everything is where we can get to it easily. I also found some of the charts we couldn't find that would have made life easier for the past two Gardenia shows.

Then I went to the Hollywood Show, which, as has been the case, was, for me at least, a disaster. Ineptly laid out, and the new "improvement" will shock you - no name plates for anyone. Unless the celeb had brought a sign with their name you wouldn't know who half these people are. Only the "reunions" of shows with multiple people there had banners. So stupid. I arrived at noon and I will tell you that half the celebs (who'd been there only since ten) were already closed up and having a nice lunch. Ninety minutes later even more were gone and more than half the room was bereft of celebs. If that's not stupid I don't know what is and it NEVER happened when Ray Courts was doing the show. I saw a couple of people I know, but it was so dreary I just left.

I realize that we're apparently still in the dog days of summer in LA, but if this dog days of haineshisway.com continues as we approach our tenth anniversary I will not be happy. I have no idea what's going on this past week, but I'd say we'd best get some postin' goin' on and sooner than later. Forty-four posts at two o'clock my time is not making me happy.

I love pizza

for "chain pizza" the local Papa Johns makes a nice regular crust with extra sauce, extra cheese and bacon

I have never had a bad pie at John's Pizza in New York

Here in my little 6 mile hamlet we have 15 pizza parlors - 2 of them are really good and a couple are pretty awful but most of them fit inthe good enough catergory

For nontraditional pizza I do love the Thai Chicken pizza at California Pizza Kitchen

and there was a pizza place around the corner from my old job that made an absolutely melt in your mouth Chicken francese pizza that was to die for
