I think what I object to is taking foods and trying to make them into something else. If you are vegan and opposed to eating pig, why would you create something that reminds you of bacon? Why make mayonnaise that has no eggs in it?

Because if you previously ate those foods you still miss the taste.  I eat soy bacon & hot dogs occasionally when I can find the brands I like.

I've actually wondered the same thing time and again whenever I go to a vegetarian restaurant. Why "remind" yourself of the foods you gave up eating for personal health and/or ethical reasons?

It is very difficult to adjust eating habits as you all know.  Some foods can be substituted and with others it doesn't work.  Vegetarian restaurants I've been to also had creative dishes that did not resemble meat dishes at all.

It sounds like BK may have gone to Real Food Daily. I ate there recently and didn't care for it at all. I am a vegetarian and like veggie food--I have zero desire for meat. But RFD tries to make vegan food taste like "your old favorites", ie, meat. sigh. That's not what it's about!! At least, not for me.

A vegan place that I like very much is Native Foods. A friend and I go there a lot.

bk - As far as vegan food being low-cal, well... Since nuts and grains are usually "calorie dense"... But it's all about the portion size... Or how much you ate before you stopped eating it because it tasted so bad. ;)

When airlines offered food options the early vegetarian meals were not eatable.  Fortunately there were also fruit plate options.

Last night we had a chili feed / chili contest at our apartment building. Good food and good company! 3 of the four ladies (Vee, Sally, and Virginia) who live along my wing of the 4th floor were there, so I mostly hung out with them...I have really nice neighbors.

OK... I've dawdled a bit. I've planned a bit. I've even fretted a bit so far today.  However, the one thing I have yet to do is eat a bit... And I really should.

BK, when you see Linda Purl and Gregory Harrison, ask Linda if Gregory will be coming with her when she comes to Salem in April!

I am looking forward to seeing her show, and if Gregory will be in the show...well, all the better, since I have long been a fan of his (although I had no idea he even sang).

If I were Gregory Harrison, the threat of your being in the audience would keep me from showing up. Doesn't your reputation as a stalker of aging hunks precede you?

The Fed Ex man was great! The nine cartons are out of my apartment and the actor playing Ben Stone in the Kennedy Center production of FOLLIES is stopping by to return some CDs.

Back from the CR gym, where the ladybugs were given a reprieve until the weekend.  Guess they didn't want the patients inhaling the insecticides!

My sister just called from Michigan to tell me that her foot surgery went fine today.  She sounded a little loopy, but could form complete sentences.  I don't envy her the next several weeks...

Had a very nice meeting with Linda and Greg and we're plowing forth.  Greg is great and we got along wonderfully and I think this will be a fun show to put together.

Ok, I finally have some time to catch everyone up.

As I mentioned, tonight is the orchestra sing through. Everyone is excited.  I am excited, also - but I'm trying not to think about it too much.  I still have a pit that's too small, and some "holes" in the orchestra that I need to fill (from instruments we are not using).  But I know it's going to be amazing.

The set issue is being dealt with.  The TD and I had a meeting yesterday, it all went well.  I have hopes.

The cast is fantastic and are real troopers.  My Norma is a pro and rolls with all the punches and is a real team player.  We are so fortunate.

The show is blocked, but some of the "moments" aren't there yet.  A lot can happen with the addition of sets and costumes, so we'll see how it goes.

We tech tomorrow and Sunday.  I love the process where everything comes together.  I am confident that we'll have an easy weekend.  Like I mentioned, the TD is great and our lighting designer is one of the best.  I couldn't be more blessed to be surrounded by such talented people.

The costumes... OH THE COSTUMES.  Our amazing costume designer loves this show and it really shows in her design.  Norma's clothes are amazing. Simple, yet amazing.  And the rest of the cast looks great, also.

The one thing left is to complete the projections, which I'm working on as well as another person who is putting together the car chase.  I predict that this issue might be number focus in the next few days.  I'm hoping for the best.

Now, I'm off to make some magic in the pit - trying to make space, that is.

More later... (and definitely pictures and some sound links in the next few days)

TOD:

DVD: Extract, a comedy from Mike Judge, creator of "King of the Hill."

CD: Haines His Way

Car CD: Disc 3 of "American Gods." (Thankfully, Miss Becky Sharp and "Vanity Fair" have been put to rest.)

MP3: "Sugar." The way it should always have sounded.

DR John G, who does the reading on AMERICAN GODS?

George Guidell, who is doing a good job with it. Really fun. But that could actually be the book.

And Gregory H. has played Benjamin Stone in "Follies." So, all the world is a circle. Wait, wrong musical. Severely wrong musical.

I miss the taste of coffee, but decaf can't replicate the mouthfeel of fully caffeinated, so I drink something else. Likewise, carob tastes nothing like chocolate. Carob tastes more like dirt than anything else. And since I'm from Kentucky, I do know what dirt tastes like.

Off to the Unemployment Insurance hearing in 28 minutes - this (I guess first) hearing will be by phone.

(Wasn't there a REALLY GOOD song "Now we're here for the hearing" in THE BEST LITTLE WHOREHOUSE GOES PUBLIC?)
Many vibes. And yes, that was one of the better numbers in that lively score.

George Guidell is fabulous!  On our 25th wedding anniversary, Richard and I toured the Recorded Books, Inc. studios and had the honor of observing him in the recording booth.  He was very gracious to us and great fun to watch as he recorded Nathaniel Philbrick's Mayflower.

I have never known anyone who could tell the difference between decaf & regular except for the caffeine buz.  I tried carob & would rather do without.
