Tonight I am going out for free food.

The place where my parents get their cars is having an open house with lots of food. And since my parents are out of town I am going to bring in their coupon to get stamped (you get money off the next time you bring your car in).  Since the place is only 5 minutes away I think it's better than making food.

DR Jennifer:  Is this place a drive-in?  Or...do they seat the cars?

Not sure exactly what you mean. But it's a big store room where they sell cars. The cars will be on display indoors. And there will be a buffet with food (to eat while you stand).

BK, about Michelle's funeral --

I have never heard about funerals being an invitation thing. If you were notified or if you read it in the paper, you may go. If a trouble-maker is unwanted, however, the funeral director may ask said person to leave.

Well some funerals are private. I think it would say in the paper. But since you were a friend of hers I think you should definitely go. I agree with DR Ben that you would regret it if you don't go.

It's almost getting too cold to bike. But I think I should be okay for this week and next. IT is around 46F today.

The problem is the first 5 minutes are too cold. But then the weather at the lake is so different. The lake really keeps the elements in check. It's never as cold or windy.

For Ginny and other Brian Boitano fans!  He was here yesterday checking out the ice and talking to my friend Bruce Miller

Oh, thank you, DR Cillaliz!  BB is one of my all-time favorite skaters.
my favorite line is at the end after Bruce asks him to do the arm thing he did in the Olympics and then Bruce says "That is so Brian Boitano" lol  Yes, it IS Brian Boitano

I have a Sioux City Film Institute meeting at 5:00.  There was a manager at the theater here who basically cut us out of what we do...the film festival showing indies etc. So we've found a movie theater owner who wants to host us.   We're going to try to get a series going.  They haven't listened to me the past few years when I make suggestions, but I'm going to try to get a couple that are near and dear to this here site on the list of what we want to show

Since I wasn't getting anything done today, I went out and bought one of those great big cat climber/tree/perch whatever you call them.  It's almost 5 feet tall with three platforms.   Ricky keeps eyeing my book case, so I decided to give him a place to roost that won't hurt anything.  I think they'll really like it.

bk - Unless an obituary says something along the lines of "a private service for family and friends will be held at..." then there is usually no invitation to/for a funeral.  You should definitely go to Remember, Share, Celebrate, and, cry a little.

Oatmeal, walnuts, cinammon, cranberries and coffee.

What are five things that do not go with lime sherbet?

Well... If you toast the oatmeal and walnuts, season them with cinnamon, then mix them up with the cranberries... Almost like a crumble-topping or granola...  ;D

Very good Mr. P.

Your prize is eating oatmeal for breakfast for the rest of your life!

What?  No more grits for breakfast?

Hmmmm, grits!  -And it's been nice to find that more restaurants in NYC are serving grits as part of the breakfast menus, instead of just at lunch and dinner - shrimp'n'grits is still as popular as ever.  'wichcraft serves them all day with chunks of good ham and cheese.  Hmmm, maybe they should be called "HHW Grits"?

I've just read a short news blurb that says Betty White has been named an Honorary Forest Ranger.

Harrumph!

First, she wins an Emmy (for hosting SNL) that should have gone to Kristen Chenoweth (for "Glee")....and now she gets an honorary forest ranger honor that, at the very least, should have gone to our very own DR Laura.

Will the madness continue?
