Laura, why aren't those butterflies tagged?   ;D
My thoughts exactly.

Now this is an incredible Thanksgiving story...

My Thanksgiving Plea: Tracking Down the Trans

If you have some downtime later today, the series of videos makes for some good watching (that has nothing to do with football). ;)

When I was little we used to all go to my Aunt and Uncle's house in Des Moines.  Both sets of my grandparents would be there, my great aunt Grace, my aunt and uncle and two cousins our family and my uncle's parents.    I always had to sit at the kids table, but all my best Thanksgiving memories are there.

My Aunt usually bought a turkey precooked.  One year the guy who was supposed to start the turkeys at the store overslept.    The turkeys were started late and we waited hours and hours for the bird.  Since most of my family is very impatient that was not an easy thing to do.

They had an old pocket pool table with the mesh leather pockets. We used to play for hours

I really miss my grandparents, Aunt Grace and especially my Aunt Priscilla and Uncle Jim.  They have all passed away. I am Thankful I had the chance to know them, love them and spend time with them growing up.

I'm having real mixed feelings today.  I'm fine that Mom and Dad couldn't get here and as I figured they are going to go to my brother's house for dinner - which they should.   I'm happy to be home, but wish I would have at least been invited to my brother's house.  Choosing to be alone is a little different from not having a choice.   I'm still going to focus on the positive and not let that ruin my day...but I do have my moments.   I am thankful for all of you here

I'm up, I'm up.  The sky is blue, the home environment is currently 62 degrees and heating up, and I got eight hours of sleep.

I've never done this Black Friday thing.  Maybe after our rehearsal I'll go over to Nordstom's and see if they have any clothes I like.

I said "damn" once when I was a kid. My dad thought it was hilarious.

:)

My sister taught me how to swear and then told on me for doing so.

Druxy I personally think your father over reacted, at least with company there. ;)

My most memorable Thanksgiving was in 2008, when I was with my sister following her cancer surgery. All of her rechecks have been good. For that I am very thankful.

That is a perfect Thanksgiving!

I am agog--AGOG--seeing the ads in today's paper announcing stores opening tomorrow at 3 a.m.

Pshaw - amateurs! The stores here are starting their Black Friday Sales at midnight

Well that almost--almost--makes more sense, as you could simply stay up late and go.  But 3 a.m.?  Insanity.

My first reaction.

DR Cillaliz - I'm dealing with similar feelings towards some extended family.  Richard and I are fine by ourselves and going out to dinner with my mother.  I totally accept Rob being with his fiance's family.  However, I can't help but wonder, if my outcome in August had not been so good, would Richard's brother or nieces have taken in a new widower?  Sometimes, family is not all it's cracked up to be and the families we create (like HHW) can mean as much as those into which we were born.

That is AWSOME. I wish our thanksgivings had that much hilarity. All that really happens is I sit there while the adults talk over each other. Tis the season to bring books, fa la la la la, and pass the mashed potatoes already dang it.

We'll try to be more interesting this year

I've heard DR Druxy has a great joke The Vixter could tell.

Truthfully, the Thanksgiving story is funnier than the joke.

 ;)

Both sound better then the conversation at our last Thanksgiving get together. I swear, I'm planning where I'm hiding in my uncle's house with my D.s, sketch pad, and books already. ...Probably should stash in the Pod too, just in case the cousins turn into a no-show.

Dear sweet Vixter I assure you that your parent's arguing enough to empty a room, especially if you were the cause of said argument, would not be entertaining at the time. :)

Our reservations are for 5:30, so I expect we'll eat about 6.

Did I mention last night that Paul's surgery went well and he was home and resting by noon yesterday?   I didn't talk to him until last night, but he said they fixed a hernia and did something to his stomach he still doesn't understand.  He did say he can eat already, that surprised me.

Good news.  Thanks for the update.  I wasn't sure if I should ask.

Thank goodness your outcome were not different.  I'm sure Richard would have gone to Michigan with Rob.

Those who've read my first three books know about my family - and yes, the families we create are sometimes the families that mean most, and I'm grateful we're all here.  Thus ends my side dish of treacle.

I'm headed to friends' at 2 p.m. to help finish up stuff before the last guest arrives and I think dinner is 4 to 4:30 depending on when it's ready.
