Well, you've read the notes, the notes were full-sized, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they ARE coming, it's in the small print.

TOD: The New Yorker. I used to read it for the cartoons and the fillers at the end of the stories (Block That Metaphor! was my favorite).

I started reading the articles when I got older.

Then I just sort of stopped reading magazines altogether. I guess it's the internet.

And for someone who wrote for newspapers for 25 years, I gave those up very quickly, too. But I think it was easier to do that because the quality had fallen as badly as BK describes in his notes.

Just got caught up with yesterday's posts. Like Dan (the Man), I went off and made cookies yesterday. It's fun making cookies with a friend when all you want to do is have fun. It's not so fun when you want to make cookies. I was testing a recipe from Mom's cookbook, and my friend didn't like that we had to follow the recipe. Then she wanted to make her version of what she would have done with the recipe and her cookies didn't come out right, but she was happy with her version and I with mine, and that's all that matters. Hopefully later this week, I'll have time to devote to more cookie baking.

Good morning, all! I will hopefully have the day I didn't have yesterday because of that soggy pillow. Around 10:30 I will head downtown for edits at Toyland with my colleagues Curtis and Skip Kennon. I should get home in the late afternoon and hopefully pick up one or two checks in the mail.

Following that, I've got more typing of Victor Herbert lyrics; these German songs and an English version take forever, and I've got to look at a few Appalachian and British folksongs for this theatre piece in the works.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Happy Birthday to DR Nursie !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

TOD:
Does anyone still publish "The Weekly Reader"? I loved it in grade school and it might make a thoughtful gift for DR MBarnum, if some of the words aren't too difficult. I also loved the Micky Mouse Club Magazine. And Famous Monsters of Filmdom.

In junior high school I discovered "New Yorker," which encouraged my move away from Ohio.

In high school I became addicted to "Theatre Arts," "Opera News," "High Fidelity" and "Stereo Review," all of which I followed faithfully for years. "High Fidelity" and "Stereo Review" may still be published but their quality decreased along with the musical tastes of the American public, and I don't think I've looked at an issue in over 10 years.

In college I discovered "Dance Magazine" and British magazines "Gramophone" (still subscribe) and "Opera" and "After Dark," to which I subscribed until its demise around 1982 or so.

In the 1970s, I added "New York Magazine" to my reasons to leave Ohio.

When I got to NYC, I loved "Theatre Week" and Max Preeo's "Show Music," neither of which lasted. I also found "American Record Guide" and "Fanfare," to which I've subscribed for over 15 years.

Tuesday morning greetings!  Today is my last day as a board member of the grantwriters' group.  We're having our chapter meeting (a luncheon) and then a board meeting.  A week from Thursday, the continuing board members are having a dinner for me and the other person leaving the board.  This is the group I was with on the fateful Aug. 3, so they're pretty special to me.

Rob will be riding along with me, because he has an appointment at Sinclair Community College and we're sharing my car.  It's right on my way, so I'll drop him off.  I'll be glad to have the company.

I do? That's nice to hear. Thank you!

Speaking of Nimrod in yesterday's posts, I cannot believe that Oaf has the same name as one of the most glorious and moving pieces of music ever written!

The current news about Elizabeth Edwards has been very upsetting to me. I wish her and her family a peaceful end to her suffering.
