I watched the original TRUE GRIT again about a week ago.

I agree with BK that it's no classic, but it's certainly a much better film than I remembered it being.

Wayne was terrific and, despite what some people have quipped, I do think he earned the Oscar that year.

I am of the opinion that Wayne was given the Oscar because folks thought he might not make many (if any) more films.  Four classic performances were nominated that year...and then there was Wayne.  The best performance of that year was turned in by Peter O'Toole (as was the case in virtually any year in which he appeared in a film), followed by Voigt, Hoffman and Burton.

It wasn't even prime Wayne.  His greatest moment was in "The Quiet Man".

Ron, I agree that most years O'Toole has been up, he's been robbed.  The greatest actor never to win an Oscar for an array of brilliant performances.  I think I'd have to say Wayne's greatest performance is THE SEARCHERS, although QUIET MAN is a damned close second.

I agree about Quiet Man.  I don't remember complaining he won for True Grit & I liked his performance in The Shootist.

Darn I forgot about The Searchers, though I still prefer Quiet Man.

It's been raining non-stop all day (and all day yesterday) to go outside to do anything.   The weather is very unusual for us.  The earth here does need it, the hills during the drive to and from work were really dry and brown.

My digital camera was a dead issue.   $250.00 to fix it, was only $247.00 brand new is 2007.   It went to the recycle world.

Hi Jane.    I have a fake 3 foot tree up this year.   Just the perfect size for coffee table decor.   From Radko.    And that was enough to make the whole house festive.  Nice and simple and cheerful with only German (very colorful and silly) wooden ornaments.

This Friday and Saturday I'll be baking cookies, to give to may 20 or so neighborhood houses I've become aquainted with.  All really nice people and their pets.     No doggie cookies though.   I'm not venturing into that baking.

It stopped pouring outside, time to take out the trash and check the car.

I forgot to mention Keith likes the tree.  I'm going to try and wrap it as is to store for next year.  I thought about wrapping a ribbon around the base but it tips to easily to do it now, unless I get some help.

I actually suggested getting a fake tree this year, something I never thought I would do.  I miss my prettier decorations which won't fit on this one.  I used to have a mini tree and a large one.  This new little tree is nicer than my old one which is why I think Keith likes it..

I forgot I was going to make cookie dough today and put it in the freezer.  Maybe I still will.  I won't make much since Craig (it isn't vegan) & Keith (who watches his weight) won't eat any.

If anyone wants to catch the dinner party from hell on "The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" with the real and truly obnoxious Allison Dubois, who's nothing like Patricia Arquette protrays her, and Kelsey Gammer's softcore porn actress ex-wife who's insane and a totally vile bitch, it's being rerun on Bravo at 6 pm. It's intense and Ms Dubois comes off as a famewhore to the nth degree.

Well, I didn't get to see the nativity this morning. I was in the ER with a 92-year-old 72-pound woman full of spit and vinegar who fell at church this morning.

Thanks.  I didn't find the decorations I used to put on the little tree, which I'm sure I trashed.  These are nicer and would have gone on a big tree.

I've put out a few more decorations around the house and some of the pretty boxes, one of which even fit under the little tree.  I wrapped Sherlock, Yogi & Kitty's presents in pretty bags and put them by the fireplace with the fake gifts.

I think I enjoyed those pretty boxes more than the gifts that were in them.  Most are from Bryan who began splurging on professional wrapping for me.

Well, she's mad at the doctor for not letting her go home, and she argued something fierce with the social worker who was asking too many questions. I want to be just like her when I grow up.

Yes, DR Laura, 92-year-olds can be pretty feisty - my mother is a great example.
