Friday morning greetings!  I'm about to put myself together for a trip to the vampires blood lab, for a follow-up to last week's test.  Then I'll take my car for a thorough cleaning and to the retirement village where my mother-in-law lived for a program on women's heart health.  The speaker is a friend of mine who's a nurse practitioner for a local cardiologist (not mine).

DR Elmore - August 4 & 5 will work for us and a trip to NE Ohio for operetta will be a great way to keep from dwelling on where I was on those dates in 2010 - cardiac ICU.  As you plan your trip, remember we can assist with airport transport, if needed.

Good Morning!

I'm up, I'm up... And I'm about to play for 187 musical theatre auditions. -Well, that's how many are on the list. The weather and the airlines may have other ideas today.

We're snowbound in Austin this morning.

Hopefully, the white stuff will melt by early afternoon.

I have to decide if I want to come to Middletown for a week or fly to Cleveland, rent a car and drive down to Wooster.

During the dress of WHERE'S CHARLEY? at Godspeed in 2004 we had a tree fall on a cable and knock the power out at East Haddam for several hours. I guess around 100 homes were affected, but after living through the 2003 power failure that covered a lot of the East Coast, my only comment is, BK, that I'm glad you lost no work on the computer. My memory of 2003 is wandering the apartment halls after dark with a candle to join the tenants on the street for info on what was happening. Given the horrors of being stuck for hours on buses in Chicago this week, I'm grateful the only discomfort in 2003 was the heat and the fact that I am totally unprepared for any emergency. I now have a flashlight.

I had a great time in NYC during the Blackout of 2003:
-I was staying in Michael Rupert's apartment in the West Village at the time. The Italian bakery had hot coffee and fresh pastries in the morning since they had gas stoves.
-I was in the middle of casting Camelot at Arena Stage, and we finished the process on the sidewalk outside of 820 Broadway the following morning. -And we even had some actors walk by who, after seeing the headshots laid out on the sidewalk, decided to submit themselves for the production. ;)
-Amtrak was still running on time.
-And I ended up chatting with Fran Liebowitz for a few minutes by Father Demo Square. Alas, I thought she was Annie. Fran was not amused.

174 in one day?

Another Correction/Update: 176.

And, yes, all in one day, and all in a row.  We see 100 people before lunch, then break for an hour, then finish the day. I usually finish around 2:30-3:00 which gives me plenty of time for a nice long dinner break.

Each actor/singer gets 90 seconds. -And, hopefully, a lot of callbacks and a job offer or two.

Speaking of Camelot - I am struggling to make some cuts so that we don't have a 3 1/2 show.....it's not easy.

DR Laura et al - The auditions I'm playing over the next four days are for UPTA - the Unified Professional Theatre Auditions.  This is my 12th year here in Memphis.

In March, I will be in Atlanta for SETC - SouthEastern Theatre Conference. It will be my 18th Spring SETC Audition.

DR JRand - Ah, yes. Alas, the adage, "Cut what you Love" may have to come into play. -At Arena Stage, we ended up having to cut one of Guenevere's songs. :-\

We got a little snow in San Antonio. It stuck mostly to the roads, driveways and patios. But it was enough to have caused more than 40 accidents so far. I'm staying off the roads. Temperature is 21 now. Don't know what's what.

I was having lunch with a friend Tuesday when the restaurant had a blackout. The fryers and oven are all gas, so we got our food, but the kitchen was pitch black. Guess they were cooking in Braille.

When it snowed here 20 years ago, it melted the second it touched anything.
