After I got home, the most wonderful thing happened.  Edith's husband, Chris, called me and asked me if I'd like him to come over and fix the downspout.  OMG!!!  I had stopped at the farm and home store and bought everything to rig up a temporary fix, but it was very temporary and I had no long term plan.   So Chris and Edith stopped over. He took a look at it took part of it off and headed to the store.  He came back and was able to rig up a temporary fix and will come back tomorrow to fix it permanently.    I am so thankful.  It was nothing for him, but it was a huge deal to me

that is great!!

Guava juice was one of the ingredients on CHOPPED tonight

I also like guava purée swirled into an ice cold glass of horchata.

I don't think I would recognize a guava if it fell in my lap

This weekend is the Vixfamily annual outing to http://www.iconsf.org/

We are somewhat underwhelmed with the guest list this year - especially as this is the 30th anniversary and we were expecting 'something special"

In the past  Charles Pogues close and personal friend Harlan Ellison was a regular - but his last visit was in 2008

but we have had our tickets since Ocotber and we are transportation for several of the Vixter's friends - and it beats doing the laundry!


so I will not be around much if at all this weekend

Do you have enough to make some membrillo or goiabada?

I can buy the membrillo all the time. I was using fresh and, boy, the guava ice cream is delicious, all heavy cream and fruit and sugar.

Oh! I think I may have mentioned it early on, but...

Elsewhere

It's in the old La Madeleine space on 43rd & 9th - just a stone's throw from Chez Kennon & Landau. -And I believe there was a HHW Get-Together held there once (at La Madeleine). It was also a second location for Café Un, Deux, Trois, after La Madeleine closed, but that only lasted a few months. In any case...

Elsewhere is the sister restaurant to Casellula - a.k.a. my favorite wine and cheese place in NYC. Same owners, same main chefs. Alas, the pastry chef makes different desserts for each restaurant. Thankfully, the employee "discount" applies at both places.
