Well, you've read the notes, the notes were inappropriate, and now it is time for you to post until the inappropriate cows come home.

This evening I'm seeing Harvey Fierstein and the lovely (and lovely to look at) Christopher Sieber in La Cage. The show closes on Sunday.

Good morning, all! Today will be either a good time or a very torturous day, and I'll let you know after 6 pm, when it's officially over.

I spent most of last evening communicating with people about Russell Warner's death via email and telephone. I got a couple of beautiful emails from Michael Price, producer at Goodspeed, whom I adore. He's known Russell forever, since Russell's career as an arranger/orchestrator began at Goodspeed. It was the Goodspeed revival of Jerome Kern's VERY GOOD EDDIE that took him to Broadway. I've always loved that revival recording, and about half the score is Russell's work, since there were a lot of interpolations and replacements. Russell's work blends in with the originals marvelously. I first worked for Goodspeed in 1988, and by that time Russell was no longer there. I met him in 1984 when John McGlinn was looking for another orchestrator to work on the Book-of-the-Month Club recording "Songs of New York." I didn't want to transcribe a lot of period recordings and rescore them, and Russell did a fantastic job. At the last minute, I ended up doing one track for Joe Papp, "Please Don't Monkey With Broadway," that I had to transcribe from the original film soundtrack, for two reasons: it was a lasr-minute rush job and I needed to prove to myself I could do it.

We did nine of the eleven scenes from Act One......the chorus is a bit less lackluster than it was....but there is a LOT of acting going on  in the smaller parts that is quite.....unusual.....and the dancing is.....under rehearsed.  I am sure some of those things will change.

Sorry for the loss of your friend, DR Elmore.

I'm familiar with all of Mr. Warner's work with the exception of the GOING UP revival in '76.  It didn't last long--only a month--but even so, it's odd that I can't place this production in my mind.  I can't even find any poster art to jog my memory.

And I'm hoping it's a GOOD day, Elmore.

Me, too! Otherwise 6 hours of torture is ridiculous!

I feel this whole day is a waste of time and money, but the producer feels it's important "we all be on the same wavelength!" Oy! If it's not fun, shoot me.

Thanks for the birthday wishes DRs Sam and TCB!

Btw, re:  DR Jose's 7:20pm bagel post.  I'm curious do most DRs bagels look like those (very puffy)?  Our bagels don't look like that. They aren't puffy.

We had a very odd waiter last night. I called him (privatedly) chatty cathy.

I've never seen someone be so chatty.  And he told us to take the little ketchups home "because one never knows when one might run out of ketchup and the little one will come in handy" :)

So my uncle asked him to bring over some little mayos for him to take home.

Also, many of the dinners are way too big for any woman to eat. I love the dish I ordered. But I always end up taking home half. Otherwise i would make myself sick.

I don't really get why waiters look at you funny when the dishes are so big.

And when he brought my birthday brownie dessert for some reason he scooped an extra two scoops of ice cream on top and then put 6 or 7 spoons sticking out of my brownie.

It was certainly very nice to give the extra scoops. And nice to bring extra spoons (in case anyone wanted to try). But I found it very odd to have the spoons already sticking out of my dish.

Sorry to hear about your friend Russell DR ELMORE.  Condolences and thoughts.

I thank everyone for their condolences.

I never think of Russell as one for sentimentality but once: when he was forced through the new owners of his apartment building on 47th Street to give it up and relocate permanently to Seattle, where he'd been living about 6 months a year, I could tell from our conversation on the day he left that he was weeping. This was around late 2008. He had moved everything he could back to Seattle except for his piano, which he gave to me, He kew I'd lost mine during the 2008 bed bug crisis.

It's sitting down at Toyland and I should move it back here.

When I was working on JUBILEE in January-March 1986, Russell helped me survive the stress of a horrid abusive producer who called daily with threats and invective. Because the New Amsterdam Theatre Company and the Porter Trust delayed getting me a contract by around 6 months, I was way behind my estimated completion date, as she constantly reminded me. Russell was at that time living in Manhattan around 90th asnd West End Avenue and using the producer's midtown apartment as a studio when she was out. He was aware from my conversations about her and her tirades about me to him that "Fang" (as he called her) was coming on strong like a bulldozer. Whenever he'd call to check on me and my mental condition, his first words were always "I'm calling from Gadhafi's bunker."

As to Fang, I had to have the Cole Porter attorneys call her and threaten her to leave me in peace to finish the score. I later, around 1990, ran into her at Goodspeed and she treated me like an old friend! She died a horrid death from multiple sclerosis, and Russell visited her regularly till she died.

At the end of the season last fall, someone gave me a B I G box of makeup supplies - all unopened - I remembered it yesterday when I saw it on the counter.

So today, I am going to go through it and sort it out.  I looked at it briefly last night - lots of stuff....lots of fingernails!  We shall see what we can find tonight!

Sad Story or I'm Going to Kill My Cat:

About a week ago, I discovered that there was a hole in my pants pocket and, shortly thereafter, I also discovered that the remote access device for my car was missing.

 :(

I retraced all my steps, looked high and low, but could not find it.

 :( :(

So, last Friday, I went up to Honda and bought a new one...for $90.00.

 :'(

Guess what I found last night!

 :o

The damn thing was sitting in plain sight...right atop a blanket where my cat often roosts.

 >:(

I figure that I had dropped it or set it down someplace and, for the last week, Annie (who is now on my s**t list) has been using it as a toy.

 >:( >:(

Can anybody give me the address of a good violin factory?
