RICKETS

Well, you've read the notes, the notes had rickets, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they currently have rickets and don't even know what that means.

Technically Sofia Coppolla's film debut was in The Godfather. She played Michael Francis Rizzi.

DR JOSE's story reminds me of yet ANOTHER I Love Lucy episode.

Lucy's mother Mrs. McGillicuddy is coming into town, and there is some confusion about her arrival time.  Ricky & Lucy come in from the train station to find her at the apartment.

The Mrs. M says that she got tired of waiting and took a city bus to their apartment and the driver let her off at the front door.

Lucy:  But, Mother, the bus doesn't come down our street.

Mrs. M:  THAT"S what the bus driver tried to tell me!

I am getting a little annoyed that all of the reviewers keep comparing ATLAS SHRUGGED the book and Ayn Rand in with Tea Party politics and those ideas.

The movie is probably bad - but why review the book all over again, especially if it's only to trash it and look at it from today's perspective.  It was written in 1957!  And the reviewers all use suspiciously similar phrases and words......

Oh well.....I'm NOT an Objectivist - but I sort of understand what Rand was saying.....I think.....and it's not what some people claim.....based on what other people have written.....not on the book itself.  My guess is most of these reviewers have not read the book.  ;D

If you haven't read the book - JUST REVIEW THE MOVIE.  >:(

Saturday morning greetings!  I'm getting ready to attend a brunch at our local Miami University campus.  It's the second annual fundraiser for the Dolly Parton Imagination Library, whose local efforts are supported by our AAUW group.  Last year's event was quite fun and I'm looking forward to today's.

In kindergarten, my nieces's teacher let them watch the wedding. I thought that was sort of nice. She was in love with the hats.

Good morning, all! Lots of weird dreams, which I can only blame on the Ben & Jerry's Banana Split ice cream, since I've had no ice cream in over six months. I remember very little of them now, but I think Twiggy was in one of them.

DR Jose, your trip home was more exciting than my entire week!

Dr cillaliz, have fun at your event. I haven't thought about putt putt golf - is that miniature golf? - in years. When I was last in Ohio, I noticed the last remaining miniature golf place in my hometown had folded.

DR Jennifer, I'm sure Joan Rivers had some good critiques for the more ridiculous hats. Have you caught the documentary yet?

I have to hit the NYPL at Lincoln Center this afternoon. I need to find a copy of a Scottish Hebrides carol "Christ Child Lullaby" (Taladh Chriosd) for Tuesday's meeting about this Appalachian piece.

Larry and others who have seen the great Rivers doc--that "moment" with the heckling audience member is at a little Casino which is right down the street from Betsy's parent's Northern Wisconsin cabin.  It's a tiny reservation run by the Lac du Flambeau tribe.  When we were watching the doc, I immediately recognized the road she's on, it's the one that is the only feeder street in that (literal) neck of the woods and I yelled out, "She's going to Lake of the Torches!"  Betsy didn't believe me, but then she drives by a billboard advertising her appearance and I was proven correct.  :)

I love, love, love that opening phone call scene with Turner in SERIAL MOM, the rest of the film kind of left me cold.

I will say that like a lot of teenagers I was an ardent Randian for a while, but I still recognized how silly her books were.  :)  This was the same time in my life when I literally carried around the Viking Portable Nietzsche with me wherever I went, so take my opinion with the appropriate pillar of salt.

I had a good friend who had already read ATLAS SHRUGGED by the time I was slogging my way through.  When I got to the "twist" (the secret "village"), I screamed in dismay and he said, "I know, I know, you just want to throw the book across the room, don't you?"  :)
