OOHHHHH!!!!
There was one "lady" who came up to the window of the truck. She was dressed in a very smart, black business suit, and she had a roller bag...
"Excuse me, I have to catch a train back to Philadelphia... Could I cut in line?"
-I explained to her that that would be up to the people "behind" her.
They all said, "No."
"Well... I really do have a train to catch, and I took a taxi from 72nd down here so that I could grab a cone before heading back to Philadelphia."
-Again, I explained to her that all
these people had been waiting in line for up to 30 minutes, and that it just wouldn't be fair to them to let her cut in line at this point.
She then turned to the people in line:
"I will buy your ice cream for you, if you let me in."
After some hemming and hawing, a young woman finally acquiesced - I think mainly just to get the lady to go away.
"Do you take credit cards?"
Um, No."Well, what if I wrote you a check?"
No. There is an ATM next door."But I'm really in a rush and I don't have time to go there."
-Of course, by this time, she had been there about 10 minutes.
She eventually found some cash in her purse, got to the window...
"Well, what should I get? What's your most popular item?"
Cue the of eye-rolling.
She eventually settled on a Monday Sundae and a Salty Pimp.
"Do you have a cup or dish I could place this in?"
Yes, we can give you a "boat".When Doug handed her Monday Sundae thru the window, and placed it in the "boat", she asked for a second one to cover it. Then she asked to make sure that her Salty Pimp was also placed in a "boat".
"Do you have ice packs? I'm bringing these back for my husband in Philadelphia?"
Cue more eye-rolling.
I really don't think those will make it to Penn Station. It's soft-serve and not hard-pack."Really? You don't think they'll stay frozen? My husband has heard so much about the truck, and he can't get into NYC during the week"
Well, we are out on the weekends too."Really?"
By that point, we just gave her her treats and let her go her merry way. Now whether that was to Penn Station en route to Philadelphia... Or just over to a bench in Union Square... We didn't really care by that point...
Buh-BYE!
