It's a Minor Miracle Department:  I know many of you are sweltering, but Portland looks to finally climb above 80 today.  That's a good thing for us.

Probably not all that good for the grape growers up there.

George - what wonderful news about your show in last night's late postings!  Thanks for sharing that - what fun to have some good news from last night to wake up to this morning!
That was some good news.

Well, George, I'm going to try to fight my way into Borders today. I just wish I knew what textbooks I'll be needing for the fall the semester.

They closed all the Borders stores near me  a few months ago, so I'm safe from the sale.

They will be, Mike, though if your store is anything like the one I went to last night, there may not be much left by today.

I did manage to snag quite a few BDs I had never picked up, and in the "other" minor miracle department, I managed *not* to buy anything I already have.  :)

George, yes, DVDs are only 20% off.  I imagine it's because they're overstocked on BDs and want to clear those out.  Which they pretty much did at "my" store after I visited last night.  ;)

I had planned to give my sister a break this weekend by dog sitting my nephew's family's dog, Pepper. When last I saw Pepper a few months back he was a mellow, easy going pup who barely bothered to so much as get up and walk to the other side of a room...but now, at about 7 months old, he is quite a bit more...active.

So, since I don't want to get evicted, I chose not to dog sit!

...but I did take Pepper for a very long walk and then played fetch with him for what seemed like hours...that dog just never tired out!

He is sort of a lab/pointer mix, from the looks of him...and despite being named Pepper, he is not black, but rather reddish and blondish mixed colors...but the kids named him.

In other late breaking news, somehow I got a subscription to GQ, which I never signed up for.  A new issue arrived yesterday with Chris Evans on the cover, and I must say he bears the most amazing resemblance to Fabian.  Remember Fabian?

And while I was at breakfast, I noticed something kind of strange(?) at the table next to me: The family had brought their own milk! The adults split a half gallon of 2%, and the kids each had their own pint of chocolate milk. -I guess that's one way to save money while dining out.

TOD:

I liked Brando in THE MEN, THE WILD ONE, and SAYONARA. I enjoy his 1950s performances, but have not really seen much of his later work.

Oh...

And the father also order SIX(!) breakfast burritos and a pint of salsa to go. -And this was after he had already finished a plate of four of them. -Apparently, it's his weekend ritual there. His family nor the waitress seemed to be surprised or shocked.

Betsy's brother, the Doctor with the autistic son, always takes his own food when the family "dines out," at least for the autistic kid.  It's created some problems at certain hoity-toity establishments.

No, Elmore, we do not need another Disney musical.

....But then we wouldn't have been able to see this clip of some of the Alladin Hotness on a Hot July 4th. ;)

This was taped in Seattle, so some DRs may recognize the sights... Or at least want a popsicle. ::)

I have always thought that Elphaba looked amazingly like Bebe Neuwirth in that poster.

I suspect the tchochkes pooled their money for a subscription to get you out of the apartment so they could run away to a less kitschy place to live.

Shayne, the link you provided to the "Montreal cast singing the title song" is just one of several audio clips on their site taken from OUR cast album.  Surprised that elmore wasn't curious enough to listen and to realize what was what.

I'm up after eight and a half hours of sleep.  Not quite what I'd hoped for but better than less than eight.  Now, here is the interesting thing.  I got into bed.  Each night before going to sleep I play a couple of silly solitaire games on the iPad.  I've been doing this for about a year now.  Well, guess what?  As I was playing, the Jacuzzi jets turned on again and would not turn off.  I went outside and did the breaker thing and it was fine again, but I'm now thinking something in that game or in the iPad itself is triggering something in the Jacuzzi?  I know it sounds weird but for this to happen twice while I'm using that device can't be coincidence, can it?  I don't really want to try it again, but can any of our technical whizzes tell me if that's possible.  It's never happened before, but this is now twice in a row.
