My sister Paula had a pretty kitty for about 4 years.  Earlier this year, Smudge had a growth on one of her hind legs.....the doctor had to scrape it.....and Smudge had a tough time dealing with it.

Last week when my sister got home from the Dark Shadows Festival, Smudge had another tumor.....she took her to the vet who said that kitty would lose her leg.

The surgery was yesterday morning, but Smudge didn't survive.....she couldn't breathe after the surgery, and they were unable to revive her.....

So she has gone to the Rainbow Bridge.  Not earth shaking in the light of world events, but a sad day at my sister's house.  :'(

I only have this tiny photo right now.

Vibes to Jrand's sister, Paula.

Holey moley! I just picked up my mail, sorted out the dross, and I got not only an invoice check from August 15 but a nice royalty from my publisher! Made my day.

I walked over to mybank to deposit them - they're usually open on Saturday mornings - but they're closed, as is Barnes & Noble. Arties is open.

And packed.

They were closed today because Irene is supposed to arrive tomorrow?

Yeah! got notice that my lost maraca was found!  That means I'm no longer one maraca short of a pair.

The cute young lady that works in the produce section of my Safeway store was restocking the Cantelope display out in front of the store. She was scooping them up, two at a time, one in each hand; so, of course, I yelled, "Nice set of melons!!
She turned a very bright red.

CNN is now reporting that Irene is a Catagory 1 hurricane.  I am thinking that it may be only a tropical storm by the time it reaches New York.

Going to the museum today to see a surf exhibit and then to the gay pride festival at the same venue.

Beautiful sunshine outside.

MEGA VIBES TO EVERYONE ON THE EAST COAST.   :'(

EXTRA EXTRA MEGA VIBES.  :-*

What is a surf exhibit, and what does it have to do with gay pride?

Our county is under a mandatory evacuation order for "all coastal areas". Now, unless you perchance should log onto the County Website, and have an Adobe reader installed, you would not know whether or not you were in such an area. Now, since Delmarva is, in reality, an Island (there is no dry land bridge to the peninsula) most of the region could be considered "coastal" area. It turns out that the government has decreed: A mandatory evacuation for coastal communities within three-fourths of a mile of major waterways is in effect for the state of Delaware. (It turns out that we are outside the area by a few blocks- never mind that the rear of our property is protected wet lands and borders a stream the leads to the Atlantic Ocean.)

Not to worry, says the news "The eye will not pass over Rehoboth but will be off shore 20-30 miles.

Gee, sure glad the center of a 600-700 mile wide storm will miss me by 20-30 miles!

Here is what the miss actually means:

Quote
A hurricane warning remains in effect for Sussex County. Forecasters do not expect Sussex County to sustain a direct hit from the eye of the storm, with the center expected to pass just to the east, perhaps by about 20 or 30 miles. However, winds of at least 75 mph or more are expected across the county throughout the event, with gusts to100 mph possible. The storm is expected to be at its peak between midnight Saturday and 9 a.m. Sunday.

Meantime, the storm is forecast to create a surge of three to six feet of water along the oceanfront, Delaware Bay and Inland Bays, with lesser surge amounts along Chesapeake Bay tributaries, including the Nanticoke River. The storm is also expected to kick up waves of 12 to 16 feet in the surf zone, and dump as much as seven to 10 inches of rain.

At least Woody needn't worry about evacuating - they called him in early and have him staying late!

Why is Woody's store still open?

Back from the grocery.  It seems weird to be going about our normal lives when so many along the east coast are coping with the hurricane...

I agree.  I keep checking out my dining room window, as if I was expecting the weather to change for the worse.

I'm a bit sore this morning.  It's been years and years and years since I played my flute for as long as I did last night.  But it was SOOO much fun and so great I'd do it again right now if I could.   Think I'll call the piano tuner on Monday.  I want to start playing it again.

Sounds like a good plan. :)

Cat 1, Tropical Storm - makes little difference to NYC; the major threat is the amount of rainfall and the storm surge, both of which would be essentially the same.

Why is Woody's store still open?

Because the management in the Netherlands doesn't read our news

Because the compsny is run by a bunch of greedy capitalists.

Because the company puts customer needs first and foremost.

der Brucer

We're happy - more pay! (THe store is just as safe as our house)

PS  The management did remove the pictures of the managers from the entryway for safe-keeping

Yes, that worried me, too.

Well, they will close at midnight and reopen at 6AM.

(Woody's shift begins at 8, but he'll probably get an early morning call asking him to arrive a 6

Because New York City and boroughs shut down at noon: no transit service after noon; everything is closed tofay.

Perhaps, if FOLLIES dropped the Intermission for a second time, they might have been able to squeeze in a Saturday night perfromance before Irene arrives.

And of course, a 50 mph with on the ground level, can be up to 100 mph. from the 20th floor of a building and above.
