We are back from Lima, where many people were back in church after summer vacations.  We did a couple of errands, made a hospital visit to a 95-year-old parishioner, and had lunch before heading home.  I am relieved to see so many east coasters here and on Facebook and wondering if anyone has heard from DR Vixmom?

DR JRand - I'm so sorry to hear about the death of your sweet parakeet Abby.  Going through that with our Horus (the Egyptian Falcon God) made me never want another pet.

I have a facebook friend in Hudson Valley, NY who could use some major vibes. Irene hit hard in her area causing major flooding.  She has been desperately asking for a pump sump before the water reaches her electric & first floor.  Photos show trees on her house.

Good morning, all! I slept this morning until 6:30, so I'm about back to my usual sleeping pattern.

That was fast. :)

We watched the final season of Doc Martin on Hulu.

They are filming Season 5 right now according to scuttlebutt on the internet. I'm looking forward to it.

REALLY‽  We hope so.

I am, too!  Interesting that he's from Lansing, MI, which is (more or less) where Mary Linda is from.

Hope everything is ok after the storm

We're fine; but when the workers return to the construction site at the corner, they may be displeased;

LOL.

Still raining here. IT was quite windy. I'll be curious to see how much rain actually fell.

Where is Mikey today?  Is there an open house at one of the local retirement homes?

Thanks DR's elmore, TCB & Jennifer.  Some high school students stopped by & removed most of the water, which is quickly filling back up.  Unfortunately they can't return & have moved on to help the next person.  Her well tank has also been knocked over & it appears 3 trees, including a very large one, are leaning on her house.

I find it interesting at times on FB when comments are made that indicate only a portion of the post was read.  A friend suggested she get a generator, yet she has said she can't afford one and the roads are impassable even if she could.

My friend, Bill, who now lives in Dallas, Georgia sent me some photos along with my birthday card.  This is from the 1973 (?) production of HELLO, DOLLY!  Believe it or not, I am the string bean on the left, Bill is the one with the hat in front of his face, and the lovely lady on the right was one of my two great loves of my life.

When I downloaded my ebook from the library I had 3 options for the number of days I wanted to keep the book.  Since there doesn't seem to be a renewal option I chose the most days offered.  Had I known the first night I would read all but 20 pages I would have gone with a two day check out.  Now I want to "return" the book for the next person on the queue to read it.  It seems there isn't a "return" option.  No wonder it takes so long for the ebooks to become available.

The librarian said the state set it up this way.  She will call tomorrow & find out if there is a way to remove the book early.

I'm curious how this works in other states.

They can't let anyone else download the book until your time is up, Jane?

Nope, it is one person at a time, just like a regular library book.

DR Jane, for a long time I refused to learn about the downloadable audiobooks provided by my library because they were not Mac-compatible.  They are now, but I find the whole thing very clunky and not worth the bother.

DR Ginny I only did it as it I find it easier to read the Nook in bed than to read holding a flashlight under my neck.  This afternoon I picked up two books from the library that were waiting for me in the "held" section.
