My Facebook friend was encouraged to tell her story on FB, and out of desperation she has.  She talks about how she got through the wrath of Irene.

A heartbreaking story, Jane.  Thank you for sharing it.

Yes, and just when her boarding business was getting very popular.  She mostly has Bernese Mountain Dog customers.  I love the photos of all the pets living in her yard & little house.  I hope both can be saved.

Yesterday morning, my supervisor and I both received an e-mail from our Personnel Clerk saying that my Shared leave request had been approved.  She also asked if I wanted this approval to be sent out to staff.  My first response was, "Duh!".  However both my boss and I wrote back and asked that it please be sent out to All Staff.  As of five o'clock today, the annoncement had still not be made.

Finished with a really fun rehearsal - a lot smoother than the first rehearsals usually are.

For some reason the Astaire & Rogers Collections - DVD, Volume one and volume two are on sale at Amazon for $14.09 and $15.99.....they were released at $60 each.....so I finally bought them so I would have ALL of those wonderful movies....on DVD not on Blue Rae.....but I own them!
Great to have. I love my set.

New Dancing With the Stars cast announced. What do those who watch the show think?

Chaz Bono.
Nancy Grace.
Ricki Lake.
Rob Kardashian.
David Arquette.
Ron Artest.
Kristin Cavallari.
J.R. Martinez.
Hope Solo.
Elisabetta Canalis.
Chynna Phillips.
Carson Kressley.

I will be more interested to see who they are paired up with.

My money's on the real Tracy Turnblatt, Ricki Lake.

That's a very sad story, Ron.

Hmmm....didn't mean it to be sad.  It's part of who I am now.  I can express myself in print in ways that I can't in person, but that's probably true of a lot of people.

In retrospect, it is kind of sad.  My dad had his demons...many emotional ones from WWII and then the "demon rum" kind that plagued him the rest of his life.  It's not easy being the only child of an alcoholic.  You have no one to confide in or commiserate with who is your own age.  It wasn't something you talked about or told friends (who didn't know first-hand).   There was a stigma attached to it that applied to children of alcoholics.   I was shocked once in high school when I learned a much-loved classmate (and a very popular student) had an alcoholic mother.  I wanted to share with her my own stories, but she had all she could cope with at that time so I kept it to myself.

I'm much more objective about all of it now...at this remove from those years.   I could never have done anything about it then. Discussing it now is very helpful.

Thank you for sharing your memories. I understand about "just who you are" vs "sad" as I'm feel the same way regarding my childhood memories with my alcoholic mother.  I think the worse part was having to keep my secret which isolated me from my peers.
Thank you both for sharing your memories. I run into too many people who only want to share "good" memories, which leads one to think that their lives were a lie. None of us had a perfect childhood, but we survived and what we faced did make us who we are.

Tonight are callbacks for Parade.  No, we don't have the African American people we need, but we'll get there.  I'm kinda scared of the score, I guess I'll get over it.  I do like the story, it really makes you think.  Certainly isn't a hat and cane show.
I like certain songs from the score, but I do find too much of Brown to be, well, just like BK described a few days ago.

Jason played me a telephonic message he got from Mr. Jerry Herman, who was in tears and very emotional having just heard Jason's CD.  And he even said he thought it was wonderfully produced.
It was. Wonderful and wonderfully produced.

It's 110 here. In the shade.
It still feels 110 here. OK, 100, but it's been dark for a couple of hours now.

Finally heard from my friend, Carol, today. She was without power, phone and the rest of our modern necessities for more than a day, but all is back to normal on that front. And her house is standing. All around her were flood waters. So, she's lucky.

Watching a Mae West-Randolph Scott movie, "Go West, Young Man." Throwing somebody as gay as Randolph at Mae West is perversely entertaining.

Mae's now slapping out a tune on his backside, and he seems to be enjoying it a little too much!

Had dinner tonight at a restaurant that wants to appeal to the Ruth's Chris set and the Olive Garden set. Needless to say, it appealed to neither set. Had a roasted chicken that was drier than my backyard in this drought. And somebody kept asking me, even after tasting it, what I didn't like about the place.

Will be making an Amaretto Almond Cake this weekend from a cookbook called "Booze Cakes." The cake looks much better than the book's name.
