And speaking of The Grass Harp and the song "Floozies"...

Trivia Time!

Russ Thacker played "Collin Talbo" in The Grass Harp, and sang "Floozies". The Grass Harp closed after seven performances. Russ Thacker also starred in five other Broadway musicals:

Two of them ran less than five performances: Do Black Patent Leather Shoes Really Reflect Up?, Dear Oscar
Two of them closed on opening night: Home Sweet Homer, Heathen!
And one closed before it opened: Me Jack, You Jill

Sitting on Sunset Blvd with a flat tire. Not quite how I wanted to spend my day, but the people watching is fantastic

I hope your "wait" on Sunset Blvd. wasn't too long. -Which part of Sunset?

DR Jane - have you read THE NIGHT CIRCUS or THE DOVEKEEPERS?

No.  Should I?  I like the name THE DOVEKEEPERS.  The most recent book I have read & enjoyed is THE RED SCARF by Kate Furnivall.

I have been thoroughly mesmerized by THE NIGHT CIRCUS; it's full of magic, wonder, mystery and true characters.
THE DOVEKEEPERS is Alice Hoffman's new novel, which I just downloaded today for my e-reader, and is about four women during the Roman siege of Masada.  It looks quite promising.

Waited about an hour on a sidewalk on Sunset Blvd for the man to come and change my tire, which he did. And he was a nice man  ;)

Once that was done I finished my journey to Amoeba Music where I found a goldmine of Bollywood soundtracks, obscure Big Band, and a couple of Arabic pop cds. A pretty good haul, and most of it was from the $1.99 and $2.99 mark down sections, and for every 4 mark down CDs you get one free! I like free!

There was a 24 Hour Fitness gym down the block, which explains why the people watching was so good.

Has Guy Haines ever considered recording the the title song from LOST HORIZON?

Guy Haines is, in fact, considering a song from Lost Horizon - just not the title song.

After my trek to Amoeba I headed back to the valley via Laurel Canyon which was VERY slow going. I think it took about 30 minutes to get over the hill, normally about a 5 minuted or so drive.

Hit Eddie Brandt's Saturday Matinee and bought some nice photos for upcoming and potential interviews. By this time it was about 5:30 and I begun to find myself a bit on the hungry side. I was going to run back to my hotel and then call DR Jeanne, as we hadn't had a chance to meet while I was here, to see if she was free for dinner but I got so hungry I pulled over on Lankersham in North Hollywood and went into the closest restaurant, which was a Greek place and ate by myself. In fact I was the only person in the place. The food was quite good...although not in the hefty portions I am used to, which is probably for the better...haven't gotten much excercise this week, you know.

Talked to Laurie Mitchell this evening and she is home and feeling well. The doctor is taking good care of  her, as is her husband. She sounded good and is almost her peppy, happy self again...well, she is always happy...she is just a happy person!

The day is finally done!  The second shoot went very well, save for having to endure some very atypical noise on my patio.  It's normally completely quiet out there, but not today.  Today, the neighbor, who is NEVER home, was having a bee problem (several dead ones ended up in my yard - thank you) and the bee killers were VERY loud.  We had to ask her to ask them to please talk more quietly - they complied.   Then instead of the one plane going over every three hours or so, we must have had twenty in a one-hour period.  Add to that some sirens and it became comical after a while.  But the footage is funny and good.  I then had to leave and I had a twenty minute window to shove a bacon cheeseburger down my gaping hungry maw - I went to a jernt a block from the rehearsal studio - it was deelish.  Then we had our rehearsal and I had to go pick up sheet music from the Xerox place then go directly down to LACC (mucho traffic, natch), and I auditioned three boys and one girl.  Two of the boys I cast, knowing I can work with their raw talent - and since the girls were already cast (this gal couldn't attend due to bronchitis) I cast this girl to cover and she'll get to do two matinees.  That seemed fair.  So, the third boy we can bring in and I'll get someone really strong.

Then I finally came home.

Yes, but will Guy Haines be recreating a soupcon of Hermes Pan's indescribable choreography?

TOD - The Grass Harp, which opened the Power Center for the Performing Arts at The University of Michigan in 1971.  My friend, Doug, and I went to the gala opening night, attended by James Earl Jones, Helen Hayes, Truman Capote, among others.  The show went to Broadway and didn't last long, but I have fond memories of it.
Chain of Love is a great song.

I'm also very fond of "Floozies".
I'm sure you are.

I like most of the score, actually. "Indian Blues" and the Baby Love sequence are both fine, and "Yellow Drum" certainly does its job.

DR John G.
VIBES THINGS WORK BETTER WITH THE CHANGE IN MEDS!!!!
Thank you. It's been an interesting day. I certainly can focus much better than I have been able to lately. More energy. But, boy, do I have to watch every bite. Really no cheating for quite a while.

We quit following the MLB playoffs when our team got wiped out in the first round.

I will happily watch any playoff game that doesn't contain the NY Yankees.

what's the point of that?  Don't youze guyz know

If the Yankees ain't playin; it ain't worth watchin'
