I think my sense of direction is really l getting worse as I get older.

That isn't possible.

But JRand, I must apologize for SCIENCE FICTION DANCE PARTY....I listened to it this weekend, also...but it is now in my donation pile.

The music was great, but why did they need to add in all those voices, screams, and monster noises? It just ruined it all. I wanted music, only.
And that was the CD and not a date, right? Just asking.

I think my sense of direction is really l getting worse as I get older. I had a heck of a time remembering the way back to the parking lot that we had parked at, which was some blocks away from the theatre. However, Ben and Taylor (5 and 10 years old, respectively) were able to locate it without any trouble.

I find the same thing. I never used to have trouble remembering where I left the car but now I keep having to search for it. There's a wonderful system in one of the new malls near me where you simply enter your licence plate number onto an electronic display and it shows you where your car is. That only works of course if you can remember your licence plate number  :)

I didn't mind ALL of the sound effects - but then I wasn't really having a Dance Party.

I'm wondering what kind of camera DR Doug has--those photos are spectacular!
Quote from: Jane on November 13, 2011, 06:20 PM
I was also wondering about the camera.

DR KevinH and DRJane: I didn't use anything special. I usually use my Fuji FinePix F200 but I left the battery in the charger at home so I had to use my little Toshiba Camileo S30 camcorder, which also takes still pictures, although the pictures would have been better (especially at large size) if I'd been able to use the Fuji.

It is difficult to imagine them any better than they are.

DR Doug R - thank you for the photos of your visit to Barcelona. My sister's genealogy research has recently revealed to us that we have a first cousin in Spain.
And I meant to tell you that my husband had a similar experience in Reims to the one you described the other day. Our first morning there he left our hotel in search of someplace to get a carry-out breakfast for us and got lost. He was not properly oriented when he left the hotel and he found that the streets change names from block to block. He finally stumbled onto a visitors' center near the cathedral and they gave him a handy dandy map. He made the same comment you did about the city being smaller than he thought.

DR Ginny: Yes, it's easy to get disorientated when arriving somewhere new and unfamiliar. One of worst times for me in getting lost was in Belgrade, Serbia where street signs are in the Cyrillic script and although I had a map, it wasn't much use because the map had street names in our familiar Latin alphabet :)

I carry my hotel info with me in case I need to get a cab back.  When I'm alone I do small circles looping back to the hotel & slowly expand my area as I become oriented to the neighborhood.  At least I do this when I can.

Had a shooting incident just round the corner from me a couple of days ago. Someone in the street fired a gun at the window of a house. Police came around but no-one had been hurt. The people who were living in the house who were targeted have now moved out. And I thought I lived in a quiet neighbourhood!

:(  I'm glad it is quiet again.

I like that.  Having a personal plate number helps, unless it is strange like mine is.

We have strong thunderstorm warnings in our area until about 8:15 this evening.  There are some tornado warnings for areas north of us.

Just ordered the 25th Anniversary Edition CD and DVD/Blu-ray of Phantom of the Opera from amazon.co.uk.    They were released today in the UK, but won't be released here until February!  The article on broadwayworld.com said that the blu-ray was region free. I hope that's correct!

I was thinking about ordering the Blu-ray/DVD combo from England because I at least have a region code-free DVD player, but Amazon.co.uk says that it's Region B/2.  I don't know if it's just a general thing that they put on their listings or if it really does have a region code.  Anyway, I'm ordering it.  If nothing else, I can play the DVD. :D

It's interesting when things are released here vs. England.

Phantom of the Opera at The Royal Albert Hall CD:
England:  today, November 14 (for only £8.99...or approximately $14.30)
USA:  February 2, 2012 (for $26.99)

Phantom of the Opera at The Royal Albert Hall Blu-Ray and/or DVD:
England:  today, November 14
USA:  not yet determined (but it's at least possible to pre-order it)

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2:
USA:  November 11
England:  December 2!

Torchwood: Miracle Day (season 4):
England:  today, November 14
USA:  "Sign up to be notified when this item becomes available" :P

Blu-ray forum says it's region free and I'm sure they are right. Amazon simply give the code of the country it's issued in.

We are under a tornado watch until 9pm, which is why I've decided to stay home instead of running errands.  If the sirens go off, I want to be near our basement!

BK,

When can we expect the next episode of OUTSIDE THE BOX?

I thought that it was going to be a weekly series.

How many episodes are there?
