An opera mic (don't know why they call it that) is just a mic that hangs overhead and picks up a wide distance of sound.

I'm up - I was up at five worrying about whether something had been sent (it had) and I didn't get back to sleep until about six so not enough sleep and I'm VERY stuffed up right how, which I hope clears up soon.

Interesting......I call those stage mikes......but now I think I will call them opera mics.....it's much more theatrical.

Zumba was okay.....

DR ELMORE......I think that would be Helen Morgan as played by Ann Blyth.

I thought I'd better test my new camera last night. Here's a shot of the London Christmas lights:

I wonder how Ann's agent broached the subject of being the celebrity spokesperson for Hostess Twinkies.  ;)

And aren't the vocals by Googi Grant? Surprising, since Blyth is a soprano as was Helen Morgan.

I wonder if Nelson Riddle's female chorus needed British elocution lessons for their stirring rendition of SUPERCAR.  :)

CDs have arrived and have already been taken to the postal office, so that's out of the way.  I shall shortly do the four-mile jog.

Here's a sign I'm getting old: I went into the kitchen to make cranberry sauce, pumpkin pie, and cornbread, and I made bird suet instead.

DR ELMORE what style of music IS Lysistrata Jones?

Very contemporary pop, I would call it, transformed into a theatrical idiom.. It sounds like stuff I would never listen to if I were twisting a radio dial. I can't imagine the characters in the show performing much else and I thought it worked really well here. Would I buy a cast album? I don't know.

...with a nice dash of hip-hop.

There are a couple of audio and video clips on the show's WEBSITE.

I didn't realize until I read the program bios that Lewis, the composer, was Doug's life partner. He was living with a costumer during his Drama Book Shop days. I met Lewis last night. He's very talented.

This album cover makes me laugh. I think I've seen her trying to take over the Herbert Collection at the LoC.

What do you suppose she's reading? The score of EILEEN? NATOMA?

Al Goodman was a Romberg conductor. He conducted THE NEW MOON on Broadway in 1928.

And now I need to get the rest of my day in order. I'll be heading to LA's Union Station after rehearsal tonight to take Amtrak's Pacific Surfliner down to San Diego so that I can spend tomorrow with my brother, Jay, and his wife and her family. I also have a few more tweaks to my "Lost and Unsung" book to take care of. So time for some organizing and packing and Finale-ing.

Laters...

I think she's reading Henry Miller's "Tropic of Cancer."
