I saw a movie called Twist this afternoon Dear Readers.  It is a latter day adaptation of Dickens' Oliver Twist that moves the story's locale to Toronto and replaces the art of pickpocketing with the art of male hustling, with some heavy-duty drug use thrown in for good measure.  Oliver, the Artful Dodger (here known as "Dodge" and played by Nick Stahl, the only actor in the film with whose name I was familiar), Fagin (now a pimp), Nancy, and Bill Sykes (now a drug king and never shown on screen) are all present in the story.  With Dickens' happy ending twist (sorry for the pun) excised, this is one dark, dreary and depressing movie.  My recommendation:  you can pass this one by.

Then I'm REALLY glad that I only paid a total of $40.95 (not including shipping) for all three seasons of QAF!  (I got them on eBay from China.)

MR BK - read the third story from the top...this lawyer may be your guy!  And he is in LA.  Not sure about pro bono, but he has a history and might be interested.   ;D

DRGEORGE - the show is not without interest....just falls a short of what it could or claims to be....  I like some of the characters sometimes....and Sharon Gless is terrific.  It's the writing that is so bad.

I played Sykes in a high school production of Oliver.  I have probably mentioned this before (I am a man of few anecdotes, as you've no doubt noticed by now), but two funny things happened during the run.  We used my own dog (a Bassett Hound) for Bill's dog, and she got "stage fright" on opening night and refused to budge off stage.  After my big "My Name" number in Act II, while Nancy was beginning to belt "As Long As He Needs Me," I was attempting to yank Happy up a long flight of stairs to get her offstage.  She would not come.  Unfortunately they had not turned my lavalier off, and my whispered, "Come on, you f---ing dog" was broadcast to the largely Mormon audience (this was in SLC), who all gasped in unison.

Then, on closing night, the retractable knife malfunctioned when I went to kill Nancy and I actually stabbed her right in her lip, which burst wide open, letting a huge jet of blood spurt up and over us both.  The largely Mormon audience "oohed" and "aahed" and applauded wildly at this fantastic special effect.

Memories, pressed between the pages of my mind.

I can and will say nothing negative about disco music as a genre. It was what was popular when I was coming out as a gay man and going to clubs, so I got used to it and it was great to dance to.

No, I never bought any (well, except for the soundtrack to THANK GOD IT'S FRIDAY because I thought it had some catchy tunes despite the movie being amateur night in Dixie.)

Last dance. . . . last chance for love. . . . . .

Wow!  Just finished reading a day's worth of posts!  So many bad songs!  And I love them all! Back in college when we got bored waiting for play rehearsals, we would caterwaul bad songs in the theatre lobby.  Great fun times...

Some bad songs not yet mentioned:

"You're Havin' My Baby" -- Paul Anka
"Sugar, Sugar" -- The Archies
"I Think I Love You" -- The Partridge Family
"The Night the Lights Went Out In Georgia" -- Vicki Lawrence
The Theme from Mahagonny (the Diana Ross movie, not the Kurt Weill show)
My Sharonna! -- The Knack

And the Helen Reddy American Gothic Women Trifecta:  "Delta Dawn", "Ruby Red Dress", and "Angie Baby"

(Actually, I kind of like "Delta Dawn")

Man, I really like a lot to of these songs that you guys hate! LOL! My friends are right...I do have bad taste!

How about LOVING YOU by Minnie Ripperton? When that one comes on I turn the radio up really loud and sing along! Ha!

MBarnum: I think in real life, you and I would be great friends.

I'm just back from seeing Mr. Jim Dale and some other guy in a new off-Broadway show entitled ADDRESS UNKNOWN. It was quite good. I would go into it further, but I don't really feel like it right now. Haha! That was prissy, wasn't it?

Watching The Gene Krupa Story with Mr. Sal Mineo.

Really?  Did Mr. Mineo come for dinner, too, or did he just drop by to watch the movie with you?

DR MBarnum, is this what you were looking for?

And when I see the sign that points one way
The lot we used to pass by every day

Just walk away renee
You won’t see me follow you back home
The empty sidewalks on my block are not the same
You’re not to blame

From deep inside the tears I’m forced to cry
From deep inside the pain I chose to hide

Just walk away renee
You won’t see me follow you back home
Now as the rain beats down upon my weary eyes
For me it cries

Your name and mine inside a heart upon a wall
Still find a way to haunt me though they’re so small

Just walk away renee
You won’t see me follow you back home
Now as the rain beats down upon my weary eyes
For me it cries
Just walk away renee
You won’t see me follow you back home
The empty sidewalks on my block are not the same
You’re not to blame

As a direct result of my disgust at not being able to fit into my clothing, I took a brisk two mile jog.  I'd only planned to do one mile, to break in again slowly, since I haven't jogged in almost nine months.   But, it was surprisingly easy and I had no trouble going the entire two.  So much on my mind, that I wasn't even thinking about the jogging.

Started to watch a Josh Groban concert on PBS but turned it off after a short while.  I didn't think he was bad, but I didn't think he was very special, either.

Your thoughts on the fellow's artistry, Dear Readers?

DRLaura, I work with a woman who collects owls.  I showed her the picture and she loved it too.  I downloaded and forwarded it to her in an e-mail.  I hope you don't mind. ;D

My sister and I LOVED this song.  We had the 45.  A couple of years ago, I downloaded it from Morpheus, but then my computer died and it's gone.  We also had (and loved) a 45 of "The Night Chicago Died," by...someone.  I think that that would also be an appropriate addition to today's topic.

I haven't heard a lot of his stuff, but I wasn't too impressed with his "stylings."  So many people (a Sondheim reference) that I know just go ga-ga over him and I don't get it.  Sure, he's cute, but to me he only really has one sound to his voice..."pretty."  That's it.  I get bored listening to him after a while (crocodile).
