Well, you've read the notes, the notes had salvos, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're currently watching some You Tube videos of George Farthington Salvo.

Good morning, all! I slept relatively well, with a dream about casting a recording of NAUGHTY MARIETTA, only I don't have a Marietta.

Today I will attend an orchestra reading of the new edition of Rodgers & Hammerstein's score for PIPE DREAM, which will be presented by Encores! I'll see the fab Rob Berman, Jonathan Tunick, Bruce Pomahac, director Marc Bruni, my surrogate son Joshie, and a host of other favorite folk, so that will be fun. I've got my vocal score and the Victor Herbert  piano-cello CD for Joshie, who was our copyist, packed away and ready to go. On my way to Carroll Studio, I will do some necessary banking.

I finally began my holiday shopping last night and I hope to finish it by Monday and get the packages into priority mail by Tuesday morning.

That's my day. More coffee!

Morning all.

That is all.

I return from a week and a half of volunteer work and I make my 11,000th post at the same time.

It was quite a week and a half. We did 3,100 bags this year. Everything went well but I am beginning to feel the intense work (of course at this time last year I was in the hospital with appendicitis). I'm feeling my 58 years. I don't know how much longer I'll be able to do this (not that I'm quitting, it's just a statement).

Our tree is up and decorated. All our shopping is done and from now until January 3rd I (we) have nothing to do except see friends and relax. We still have a few days on our unlimited Metro Cards so we will probably traipse around the city a bit, seeing the Macy's Windows and the Lord and Taylor Windows and we may see what exhibit is at the Lincoln Center Library, etc.

That's it for now. I need coffee and breakfast.

Bye.

Last Friday was my final workday of 2011.  Yes, that's right.  You read me correctly.  My last 2011 workday.

It wasn't all smooth sailing, however, since the end of that day.  No, I had to prepare for my annual flight home AND the office "Holiday Pot Luck" which was on Monday.

So many things had to be done...things had to be mailed, things had to be shipped, things had to be cleaned, things had to be picked up, things had to be sorted through and things had to be cooked.  I prepared a huge bowl of green beans, a sweet potato souffle and two coconut pies.  That was my contribution to the potluck which was tons of fun.

When I got out of bed Tuesday morning (travel day), I placed my suitcase on my bed and began the ordeal of selecting what I would be wearing for the next two weeks.

This was an ongoing (until about 2 p.m.) task until I realized I was done and could close everything up and place it near the front door.

I flew out of San Francisco at 10 p.m., arrived in Atlanta at 5:20 a.m. yesterday and departed Atlanta for Columbia (SC) Airport at 8:10 a.m.   We arrived at 9:09 a.m.

During my trek to Columbia, it occurred to me that I had failed to pack a couple of things that were essential to my peace of my mind, so I told my mom we'd need to stop at a Walmart to pick up a few things.  It turned out she and my aunt, both, needed things from Walmart.

Thus began Day 1 of my trip home for the holidays.   We had beef stew and cornbread for lunch, and then I retired for a 5-hour nap.  I never sleep much on those overnight flights.  It doesn't help when your seat has been changed and you find yourself on the 1st row facing a bulkhead and the workstation for the flight crew.  No end of noisiness, light and traffic of other passengers opening and closing restroom doors.  I was not pleased.  It was all a big "mystery" as to what happened to my pre-selected seat of 3C and why it was, at the last minute, given to someone else as an "upgrade".  Given the look of the guy who got "my" seat, the mystery wasn't too mysterious.  I figured him for a Federal marshal-type.  Sigh.  You can't argue with security!

We ate ham sammiches for supper with some potato chips.  I did some computer upgrades for my mom (new browser, updating Adobe flash and reconfiguring one of her Facebook apps).  I retired at 10 p.m. and slept the sleep of petrified logs.

Day 2 has begun.  I made a strong pot of coffee, had a breakfast of fried eggs, sausage and grits, and am now having my third cup of coffee while I type these notes.

The weather, thus far, is like the Bay Area's...highs in the upper 60s and lows in the upper 40s-lower 50s.  It's like I never left Oakland, weather-wise.

I have a tree to decorate this morning.  More anon...

Was in bed at 11.00 and up at 7.00 which is a good 8 hours, although I was woken briefly at about 5.00 (I think) by DC Daisy poking me in the face with her paw. At the same time I had an attack of cramp in my leg which has left me with a painful leg today.

Leg cramps at night can be a sign of dehydration - drink lots of water before going to bed.

Yes, it tends to only happen after I've been drinking beer - which of course causes dehydration.

Thursday morning greetings!  It's rainy and very gloomy here in SW Ohio this morning, but it's supposed to clear up this afternoon.  Think I'll stay in until then and put up the last of the Christmas decorations.  Later I have to go to Target for some gifting odds and ends.

Yes DR GINNY it is 59 degrees here - but a little rain and a cool down are predicted for this afternoon.

Two little kids from the Beef & Boards Dinner Theatre Christmas show just sang on the Fox Morning News.....they sang 'Baby It's Cold Outside' - and they were terrible.....yelling more than singing....whew!

In any case....

I do need to get a few more hours of practice in. Well, more than a few. I don't have anything else on my agenda today except for the Patti & Mandy show tonight. So, if the studio is still free this afternoon, I think I'm going to practice two hours, take a break for lunch and a nice walk, then do another hour or so. Then come back here to pack my bags for tomorrow morning's early(!) train ride down to Richmond. Then dinner, then the show, then some sleep (or not).
