Just got an e-mail telling us we won a couple of year-end best-of things at The Second Disc - best cast album reissue of 2011 went to Gone With The Wind, and best soundtrack reissue went to Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (tied with another label's The Golden Child).

Great news. Congratulations.
And the notes on Kritzerland were high praise.

Poor Rex is sick. We realized we hadn't seen him in a while and Sandra found him hiding under her bed. So I'll call the vet as soon as they open.

Joshie saw me get the carrier out, and he took off like a shot.

And the word of the day is: QUONK!

And The Song Of The Day Is:  ANOTHER HUNDRED PEOPLE

In honor of DR Singdaw, who posted this a long time ago (his version had a minor typo, which I corrected in Photoshop):

That is still funny! :D

WHOA!

I was just looking into my flights to Memphis and Chattanooga for my upcoming annual UPTA and SETC conventions, and it appears that I have enough Delta SkyMiles points for two(!?!?!) domestic round-trips. I have idea how or when that happened. But it happened! :)

I'm trying to access some photographs on an SD card which seems to have got corrupted. These are my sister's photos which we tried to transfer to her pc over Christmas (she's had the camera for a year but hadn't figured out how to transfer them to her computer - doh!  There are about 1400 photos and some videos. I'm using a programme which is supposed to be able to retrieve files and which I've got running at the moment. After four hours it has scanned 4% of the memory card and has found 64 files. So I suppose it will take about 100 hours to scan the complete memory card!

DR JohnG - As I discovered with my newish camera, check to see if it's an SD card or an SDHC (High Capacity) card. They can be used interchangeably in most devices, however, not all SD card readers can read SDHC cards.

I don't currently have an SDHC reader, so I've been transferring pictures directly from my camera to my computer via the mini-USB port on the camera itself.

It's an SDHC card and I have it in a card reader at the moment, which I bought yesterday because I couldn't access the card via my camera. The software programme is slowly finding the files. It's a trial programme which I'm using to first establish if the photos are retrievable. If they are, I can then pay for the full version of the programme in order to save the photos to my computer. The full software version costs $39 but it's worth it in order to get hold of those 1400 photographs.

When you attach the card to your computer, does it at least show up in your File Directory/My Computer/etc.? If so, is it still possible just to drag and drop the files to your hard drive - that is if they show up in the directory listing.

No. I'm afraid the computer says there is nothing on the card.

DR DougR - Ah, well. Hopefully, the software you found will be able to right the wrong.

And... I actually just ended up spending some quality time on the internet instead: emails, scheduling and traveling arrangements. Now I just need to figure out what, if anything, I want to do on New Year's Eve.

Once again...

No sign of snow. It's supposed to be in the low 50s this weekend with some rain possible tomorrow. A year ago we had the Christmas blizzard and we were up to our butts in snow.

Dinner is baked potatoes and sliced chicken with a salad and a fresh pot of orange iced tea. Perhaps Jello or pudding for dessert.

I do wish that Kritzerland could get ahead - I'm always three or four months behind financially and it's so hard - my main distributor takes half of every title we do, but then takes forever to pay his invoices.  Instead of paying on a net 30 or as they come in (as he did the first few years until we began doing twenty-something titles a year), he tells me that his foreign dealers take three months to pay him so I'm on some weird schedule - I get a check every week and while it might seem like it's a reasonable amount of money, he in fact is usually seven or eight invoices in arrears.  Right now, he owes me over 50K but I get my little check every week and unfortunately the problem comes because I'm on a net 30 with my vendors - not a net ninety, and I can't go into arrears with them obviously.  So, it's always catch up and especially difficult at the end of a year.  I have to now write the Kritzerland designer a humungous check and that's going to leave very little for anyone else until the kitty is built back up, and that's a slow process given the way my distributor is paying his invoices.
