Oh my, to let myself down, I am watching the 1962 version of STATE FAIR (soundtrack on CD courtesy DR Nick Redman) - and it has some nice moments.  All three of the distaff stars (Faye, Ann-Margret, Tiffin) are easy on the eyes, and the songs are pleasant.  And it is interesting to see the on-location filming at the 1961 Texas State Fair in Dallas...at that time Midways were mostly the same....and I recognize some of the rides!  Pat Boone is a pleasant Wayne Frake - in fact I like everyone except Tom Ewell, NEVER did like him in anything.

Interesting choices everyone is making.  And I understand the point about seeing something and NOT liking it....  Yes, that is more common.

I also walked into a productions of SHE LOVES ME and CANDIDE not expecting anything or knowing anything about the shows (I know, I know) and two more favorites of mine were discovered.

Never had FLICKS!

Matt H, I tried unsuccessfully to find a photo of Flicks for you. They tasted a bit like a Hershey Kiss, but with more of a waxy texture or flavor.

Panni you are worse than I am about waiting to eat breakfast.  I eat after Echo has had her walk and been cleaned up.

Offer your services to the Hungarian restaurant and trade free meals for typing their menus. :D

As far as movies go, I can think of ony one off the top of my head that pleasantly surprised me.  I was staying with a friend and he decided to rent Shallow Hal.  Being the guest, I went along with it.  I was not expecting to like it, but I really did.  Not a masterpiece, but a quite enjoyable film.

Thank you for the warm welcome-backs!

DR Jay said yesterday "So, like, Dear Reader Jenny, whassup?  First you're gone like that [sound of snapped fingers] and then [again, the sound of snapped fingers] you're back.  Spill your guts, girl, and ply us with the saga of your absence.  (Oh, a sort of Weill/Gershwin reference.)"

Well, it's not much of a saga, I'm sad to say.  We beat the Computer Bug, and during the time I spent away from the internet, I was able to pull my grades up a bit. (Unfortunately, I proved my parents right that the computer is just a distraction).  School is now over, and in two weeks I'll begin taking classes at the Circle In The Square Theatre School where, according to a friend, I might take classes with the great Noel Katz!  The Great Noel Katz should let me know if he's still teaching there.

Well, I really must do something productive such as, perhaps, making a very short human pyramid. (A "Rosencratz and Guildenstern are Dead" reference!)  Have a lovely sunday!

Hmmm.  I was expecting a tale of abduction by pirates and an escape involving hounds nipping at your heels.  Regardless, we're thrilled to have you back in the fold, Dear Reader Jenny!

Okay, here's a Topic. Perhaps a tad serious - but something I was discussing the other day and have always found intriguing. Do you believe in the mind-body connection in terms of illness? In other words - do you think that a person can (to some degree) bring on illness through stress, negative attitude to life, whatever? And conversely, do you think that illness can be staved off, made better, or in some cases even cured or by a more "positive" approach?

I am off to Long Beach, Dear Readers, to catch a performance by the Long Beach Opera of a seldom-produced opera by Richard Strauss called Die Schweigsame Frau (The Silent Woman.)

LBO has a history of mounting offbeat works in very offbeat productions.  This piece premiered in Germany in 1935, which is all the more interesting in that the libretto is by Stefan Zweig, a Jew.  The work, a comedy based on a 1609 story by Ben Jonson, was banned after three perfomances due to Zweig's religion.

Have any DR's in the LA area been to the FourSquare Gospel auditorium?  What was it like?   8)

I think it's a factor, but not necessarily the most important one.  Certainly, one should have the motivation to get better...couldn't hurt.  But getting oneself to a decent physician should be step one; gazing at crystals or seeking some alternative medicine quackery really isn't productive.

Don't need to check it out, JR. I know a little about the subject. My ex-husband who, when we wed many moons ago, was a hotshot producer, director, etc. ...is now (among other things) a Reiki Healer. Go figure. When he used to visit our daughter in Boulder, he would do Reiki on the dog (not Wonderdog, but his predecessor)  to help her arthritis.

LOL....small world.  And of course DRROBIN is correct, advice from a medical professional shouldn't be OPTIONAL.

I am for exploring ALL the alternatives.

Panni, do you know what "Seebas" means?  I work with a woman who's last name is Seebas and I never thought that it might actually be a word other than a name.

As for JRand's topic:  I really didn't want to see "The Commitments," but I went with a friend to another friend's house to see it.  I really liked it!  I was pleasantly surprised.

Where in tarnation IS everyone?

Pogue: Going opening night to 110, which is the eve before the Hollywood Collector's show.  Harvey is coming out, but not for the opening - they're doing some sort of benefit honoring Harvey and Tom, and he'll be there for that.

Okay now I remember what I wanted to say this morning. :)

It was about the flicks email.  Never heard of it.  STill don't really understand what it is.  But if it's candy, I"m sure I'd like it.

We've explained what it is - it's little disc-shaped milk chocolate drops which came in a tube-shaped contained.  They were and will be extremely yummilicious.

As we head toward 50,000 posts (it will take a LONG time to get there if today is anything to go by), I'm also heading to 5,000 posts.  Isn't that exciting?  Isn't that just too too?

Just back from a nice walk.

I am tired.  Just came back from my sis' new house.  My gosh getting a new house in order is time consuming.  I feel so bad for her.  She is so tired.  And all she seems to do is paint.  I went over and cleaned a bunch of walls and got rid of cobwebs.  I also had to try to ressurect the flowers I planted last week.  Geez, who knew it could take her only one week to kill them. :)
