I'm up and awaiting the arrival of she of the Evil Eye, after which I'll do some sort of jog for the first time in two weeks.

I wish you would send her to me.  I will have to skip the gym today to clean, can't do both with this annoying shoulder.

Off to lunch. It's a place called Williams Confectionery Crafts and I want to order everything in the place when I go. Old-fashioned favorites, like hummingbird cake, 7-Up cake, pink cake, pies (sweet potato, coconut chess, lemon meringue), strudel (cherry, apple), cupcakes, cookies and more. I keep reminding myself I only get one that I can share, not five.

A lunch of desserts, sounds good to me.

BK, you seem to be having just about exactly the same reaction to DOWNTON ABBEY that Betsy and I had.  If that continues, you should be mostly very pleased with the final Christmas episode.

Wow the cover of the book sure looks different than it did in black and white on my kindle.

I'm curious, how did you decide on using blue as the color?

I cooked sausages, onion rings, mashed potato, peas and gravy. I now feel bloated. Time to watch more Errol Flynn.

The artist decided on the blue - it took me about ten minutes to get used to it, but I really love it now.

Back from various and sundried and will now make sure all the stuff we did yesterday was entered correctly.  I'm told I'll have at least one of the blurbs today or tomorrow.

Speaking of cakes. I'm making one now.  The Burnt Almond cake which begins with candi-fying the almonds in the oven.  Tossed the almonds in egg whites and sugar and now they are roasting in the oven.  That step takes awhile.  They come out looking like Frosted Flakes, which I hope happens to mine!!  The rest of the cake is a white and chocolate layer cake drizzled with amaretto and layered with pastry cream.  Then the thing is assembled, frosted with whipped cream and the almonds stuck on the outside of the whipped cream.

The buzzer just went off to scrape and stir the almonds... not sure I have high hopes at the moment.

And the almonds are perfect - so the DP says.  It's his recipe.

Why the cake?  My sister and I are having a "cake-off' for our bday celebration tomorrow eve.  Since we are 4 days (and 12 years) apart, we always celebrate together.  This is our third "cake-off".

I love the cover too!

Sorry to hear that you are coming down with something, DR Doug R.  The oaks are blooming around here and its keeping my nose stuffy.  I sound like I have a cold but I don't.  I hope that clears up when I go north.

Going back--to answer your question DR Jane.  I think they will feed me.  I sort of got a kick out of what the lady who called said about the trip.  I asked if they would pick me up to take me the airport (no, I have to make my own arrangements) but once I'm in NY I'm under  "their"  care and I will be escorted everywhere.

Don't they know I already carry the most deadly weapon known to man?  If I hit someone side the head with my purse I could kill them!  :)

I also thought it somewhat funny since I've already been to NY 3 times on my own.  I remember I even impressed DR Elmore by doing that.

Danise, I hope you will be able to see some of the NY denizens, even if only briefly.  I think I am almost as excited about this trip as you are.

Cakes in the oven.  Time to clean up the area.  Pastry creme is next, which requires temporing.

I have a 339 page paperback to read by Monday.  I'm going to attempt to read as much as possible during the day & avoid reading it in bed.
