I'll be leaving for Buffalo in the morning.  I think it's safe to say there won't be snow for Easter (though it's certainly happened in the past).

Good Friday is a somber day for Christians. I have never heard anyone wish anyone anything on this day. Usually there is a church service where the crucifixion of Jesus is remembered.

Why would they call it "Good" then?

I too wonder about the "Good".

I too wonder about the "Good".

Fr. Richard says "Good" Friday evolved linguistically from "God's" Friday, the commemoration of the crucifixion.  Last night's service ended with the stripping of the altar, removal of all decoration and the bronze cross, which was replaced with a rough-hewn wooden one.  That was draped in black for tonight's office of Evening Prayer and Stations of the Cross.  No music, no communion.

Evening all!

Good Friday means I have to honor my promise to my Mom and not eat any meat on this day.  That means I have to eat fish.  Yuck.  But I did it.

So glad to hear that DR TCB is doing well.

Sergio will be at the house on Tuesday to look over those things that Turner left open.

So glad this week is finely over and that my sinus headache/earache is gone.

DR Danise - you can also eat eggs, cheese, peanut butter, and fruits and veggies.  Your Mom would be pleased!

Why not eat tofu instead.

We had a nice visit with our 96-year-old parishioner who looks great and has a very sharp mind.  She told us about immigrating from Macedonia in 1927 and admired the album of Rob and Mary Linda's wedding pictures that I keep on my iPhone.  In the lobby of her apartment building I saw a cute Easter craft that I'm trying to duplicate after a trip to JoAnn's and Hobby Lobby - film at 11 (most likely tomorrow).

Thank you Fr. Richard for the explanation that makes sense. :)

Good Friday greetings from the west side of Lima, OH!  We arrived yesterday in time to check into the hotel before church.  After the service we pIcked up sandwiches to eat in our room while we watched TV.  Today I'm letting Fr. Richard sleep in and this afternoon we're going to visit a shut-in.

It must be nice to spend the night there and not get up so darn early in the morning.

Yes, it is, DR Jane, except when the previous resident of our room had the clock radio set for 6:15am and we forgot to check it before we went to sleep last night.  Fortunately, we had no trouble going back to sleep - me 'til 8:30 and Richard 'til 10.  The alarm is OFF now, but we have to get moving a little earlier tomorrow because we're meeting our niece Rev. Amy (Methodist) and her family for an early lunch about 30 minutes north of here.

It's interesting, Ginny, how differently we observe the day in our services. Ours was filled with music, which is what makes it my favorite service of the year.

The titles of many of the hymns are gruesome: "Stricken, Smitten and Afflicted," "O, Sacred Head Now Wounded," "O, Dearest Jesus, What Law Hast Thou Broken?"

But the melodies are so good.

Familiar hymn tunes?  Truth be told, one of the things I miss since we left the Methodist church is the hymnal.

DR Ginny I'm glad you were both able to get back to sleep.   With all the traveling Keith did for work he learned the hard way to check those alarms.

The Harlem Globetrotters were very fun. My niece just loved it. She was laughing and grinning. My uncle spoiled her and got her a program and a basketball.

For TAR fans both Big Easy and Flight Time are on the cover of the program. But Big Easy was not there tonight. But Flight Time was and he was very funny.
