Do birds sleep at night? I wouldn't want to peek in there tomorrow and have one fly out at me :)

Watch for action in the morning before you peek.   If you can't easily see the birds I doubt they will fly out at you, still it isn't a bad idea to be cautious.  Do you have a mirror on a long handle ;)

I would feel worse removing a nest with eggs, which I suppose is the reason I haven't done so.

Me too. How long would it take for them to hatch if there are eggs in there?  I would not want to move them. But really it is such a bad place for a nest.

Bad if you turn the light on or bad as in not stable?

Well bad because it is right on top of the door. And on top of a light. The light is only like 6 inches long. Not too big. And yah there is the light. I don't know if turning it on would harm them.

Has the light already been turned on?  I would think that if there are eggs in there, the bird has (somehow) decided that it's not a problem.  Just my 2¢.

The light has not been turned on in the last week.  Who knows since it's been cool out maybe it would be comfy with some heat.

I think it would be ok to destroy the nest if there are no eggs. But if there are eggs and you move it, I think the parents would abandon it.

In the US, I believe it is not legal to destroy a nest once there are eggs if it is a migratory or native bird. Non-native invasive species (like pigeon) wouldn't be protected here.

When we had a nest that was close to the house, we just stayed away.

Can't you leave the light off and let the birds raise their young for a few weeks? You've done without the light for quite some time now.

Thanks, DR FJL - we had another thunderstorm roll through, but no sirens.  Now it's just raining.

When I talked to my Mom she expressed exactly what I was thinking - we're glad the tornado warnings weren't 24 hours earlier.  We'd have driven right into the bad weather!

MBarnum, I am watching a Tracey Ullman show called State of the Union and had to think of you. She does a Bollywood-style song  and dance about erectile dysfunction. Very funny.

We are still thinking about how to do the Kritzerland shows in NY.  I think when we do Melody's show that will help me scope out the venues and see what the deal would be.

Is a few weeks all it would take if there are eggs?

I could leave the light off.  But it is a really bad place for a nest (so close to the door). Anyhow I'll check it first. I guess if there are no eggs i'll take it down. And if there are eggs i'll have to live with it there.  It seems sort of crazy to me that the birds were able to balance their twigs and stuff on top of that light. Hope it doesn't break off.

AARRGGHH!!  I was balancing my checkbook and it's off by a dollar!  I've gone through everything a couple of times and I can't find my mistake.

I hate it when that happens. :P

I just finished tonight's episode of "Glee."  No real spoilers but I did NOT see that coming! :o

I'm recording "Glee" for my friend and I just cut out the commercials from last week's episode.  They show a preview of what happened tonight.  While watching it, I remembered that I did see that...I just forgot about it...which I'm glad of.  Those sorts of surprises in the plot are better when they're a surprise.
