BK-

How Wonderful That HE and SHE Rhyme

Question-IYHO -How Do You Feel About Women or Men Singing Songs that specifically are written for a Man Or Woman without changing gender?

For Example-Tony Bennett sings-THE MAN WHO GOT AWAY as written without changing The Lyric to THE GIRL WHO GOT AWAY

Well, unless they're gay, it's a little weird not to change gender, no?

Not Necessarily So I Believe=If A Man Or A Woman Is Standing Back and Commenting On A Situation pertaining to The Opposite Sex=As My Example of Tony Singing about The Man Who Got Away.Just as Effective and Relevent

What is that series, Broadway Backwards, where people get to sing all the songs they're not the right gender for? Things like a guy singing "Can't Help Lovin' Dat Man"?

Also, isn't Betty Buckley's latest cabaret act where she sings all of the songs that the guys get?

I'm pleased Elmore that you're not giving credit where  credit isn't deserved.

Just had the sweetest call from Richard Sherman - he finished the new book and absolutely adored it.  Happy.

JMK, can you tell us again exactly WHY you would be in trouble for hiring an arborist to trim the trees? Do they not belong to you?

Out here, "landscapers" hack plants to death. One needs no credentials to be called a landscaper. But arborists are professionals and know how to prune a tree correctly.

I've bought a Kindle! I'd been thinking for some time about whether to get one but wasn't really sure because I like the look and feel of a book but I thought it will at least be useful when travelling.

I think you'll love it. You can have an ereader and still read real books. I do. Plus there are tons if free books. I get emails everyday with lists of them.

I know some DRs (like DR Jane) read a lot of their books on their ereader. I still read a lot more not on my ereader. But i can't imagine not having one now.

I was thinking of getting a Nook next week. Please post how you like it.

The Nook isn't marketed in the UK. So far I'm liking the Kindle. I find it intuitive to use and the touch screen works very well. The screen is bright and clear. Plenty of features - the text to speech works surprisingly well and it plays mp3s in better sound quality than my ipod.

Ashland has very strict laws on cutting trees.

We have no such laws about pruning plants. We probably should. Our landscaping looks ridiculous.

Most of my afternoon has been tied up with DEAREST ENEMY scheduling. The Dublin production team wants a schedule so they can determine times the London singers will be needed in Dublin. I can't balance a checkbook, so I know I'm going to produce a god-awful schedule. I hope the producer and conductor can bail me out.

Just pruned but I'm pretty sure Ashland also has regulations about that.

Ashland also votes for their "tree of the year".  A couple of those trees were torn down, with permission, and the town put up a loud fuss over the trees.

I would expect that any arborist in town would know what the regulations about pruning are.

Do you have to get a city permit to have a tree pruned?

Speaking of city yard police -- my neighbor got cited for weeds. I have the same weeds and was not cited. The difference is that mine are identified in Latin on a plant stake.

Some of the trees were on neighbors' property, but of course I had permission.  I would never do anything like that without talking to people first.  The problem is that Lake Oswego has a very restrictive (and ambiguous) code.  There are scores of trees in this neighborhood that have had the same thing done where they've never cited anyone.  Some crabby neighbor probably called and complained.  We may need to threaten the City with legal action.  Time will tell.

In other news, a very unique name from my childhood just popped into my head, so I decided to Google the guy and was shocked that the items that came up were pictures of his mugshots and his long arrest record!  That's what comes from playing "My Blue Heaven" on the accordion at the Cub Scouts talent show.  (I won for playing Yellow Bird on the piano).  :)

BTW, I did indeed call the survey company today and ask them if I could keep them on the phone for 20-25 minutes and then reject them because they're not in the preferred demographic.  :)

I'm tiiiired.  Had a wonderful and very long overseas telephonic conversation with composer Paul Glass, who lives in Switzerland.  A delightful man, and thrilled we're doing Lady in a Cage.  Then I spent two long hours writing liner notes, but they're done now.

Haven't heard from Pogue, and if I don't soon, I'll have to go eat something.  I also did a two-mile jog and picked up no packages.
