THE MAN WITH THE PORCELAIN CROWN

Well, you've read the notes, the notes were very porcelain-like, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're currently trying to wear a porcelain crown on their heads, thinking they're royal cows.

I haven't been able to fall asleep yet tonight.

Laid in bed for 3 hours with no luck.

Will try again soon.

We discovered a growth on the hind leg of Missy, my border collie.  She is 16 years old.

I was very worried, then the vet told us it was just a fatty tumor and to relax.

TOD: The 19th century. It could be the Old West in America, Victorian England or life in Russia. Also, the Harlem Renaissance.

Good morning, all! No dreams to be recounted, none at all. There's something vague at the back of my mind about the wonderful string line Jonathan wrote in "Another Hundred People" (beginning at  "And they meet at parties through the friends of friends") but Ihave no context for it now.

I'm off to Toyland very shortly to deal with a few things. After that, i will head back here, hoping that a UPS package has been delivered.  At 2pm, I meet DR Ginny and Richard at Artie's to hear about their trip thus far. I hope at some point to enter the Act Three fixes to the EILEEN libretto and proceed to the next step of putting the booklet together and laying out material in various subheadings like "synopsis," "history," "reconstructing the score," etc.  The needy person with all of the plagiarism charges has been quiet for two weeks now, so I don't know if he's given up or is preparing another round. Time will tell.

Today the Encores! group records GENTLEMEN PREFER BLONDES, and I am looking forward to the CD.

I go through historic obsessions so I'm not tied down to a specific period. I'm currently tied up in the American Revolution of the 18th Century because of DEAREST ENEMY, but it has ties to the French Revolution - I'm still readingTHE TERROR - as well as the disastrous Irish rebellion of 1798, which is the background for Victor Herbert's EILEEN. I also have an interest in World War I, the American Civil War, the Irish rebellion of Easter Week, and the Family of Henry VIII.

DR Cillaliz what did you think of last night's DWTS?

It sort of bugged me that they kept giving everyone perfect scores. These three are all good. But it doesn't mean as much if you always give 10s.

I think Donald and Peeta probably did the best freestyle. They did some great lifts. But there was one thing that bugged me about it. I feel like Peeta is trying to showcase herself, when she is supposed to be showcasing her partner. Donald did the lifts. But other than that to me he did very little. It was all about her (and for some reason she rubs me the wrong way).  I am guessing they could easily win. I am hoping for Mark and Katherine. But i don't really see how that could happen.

I'm bad about history.  In general, it takes "something" to trigger a strong interest in a particular period, and that something is very often a movie.  Or a particular group of movies.  Or a category of movies.  Or movies in general.  Hmm, I seem to detect a pattern there.  Sometimes it's a musical.  Or a book.

But in general, it's American history that rings my bell.  Simply put, I can "relate" to it, and, especially living in the northeast, I can look around and "see" it.

Specifically, I have a strong interest in learning about the founding of the country, more than the sound bites we were taught in elementary school -- from the first landing at P-town (see? at least I know it wasn't Plymouth Rock  :D ) through the Revolutionary War.  And boy, do I owe 1776 and John Adams, etc., big time, for this area of inspiration.

Then the exploration westward, and the "West" in general.  And yes, Hollywood history.  And World War II.  Yikes.  I'd better get started.  But first, more coffee.

Druxy, I have a question for you:  do you think there's a market for a film editor to put together book trailers for self-published authors?

I am beginning to think I may indeed need to have these two teeth pulled.  It's not overly bad yet, but the sensation is mildly annoying.

I am a huge history buff and enjoy reading about just about any era.  I remember reading Barbara Tuchman's A Distant Mirror many years ago when I was staying with some hippified folks in San Francisco, and one of them picked up the book and skimmed through it and remarked, "I just don't get what this is about!"  :)

It was a book I had acquired when I was working on my (aborted) Masters' thesis about the automatic writing by the wives of William Butler Yeats and Aleister Crowley.  It was a very rare volume of Crowley writings and the few copies I've been able to find online are all for hundreds of dollars.
