Sauces, oh my, yes.  Love 'em, both simple and complicated.

At home, definitely simple -- for example, a nice mouth-filling meat sauce for pasta.  I CHEAT by starting with a can or three of Hunts -- I always forget the name, but it's the only one that for some reason doesn't include HFCS in the ingredients.  Brown a pound or three of decent ground beef (I've tried other meats but they just don't quite satisfy in the same way), being sure to season with fresh ground S&P.  Lightly sautee some chopped/crushed fresh garlic in a little olive oil.  Fresh basil if I have any.  Simmer it all together until you can't stand it any longer.

That's for "hearty" eating.  Perhaps someone can post something a little more delicate.

I throw in a can of diced tomatoes, a lot of onion, and ground pork with the ground beef. And lots of mushrooms.

I love diced tomatoes in sauces and in chili, and should have thought of that.  They add that perfect texture.

Our train ride down from New York was quite smooth.  I'd bought sandwiches at Penn Station for our lunch that turned out to be delicious.  From home I'd brought a Netflix that arrived the day before we left, so I watched 2 episodes of BOARDWALK EMPIRE and will watch the third one tonight and mail the disc back from here.

Thanks to Jane. I'm not sure whether that's a cupcake or a muffin, but it definitely looks good!

It doesn't have frosting so I figured it was healthier, whatever it is ;)

I am pretty sure I've got my colors picked out for the new den. I'll probably start that project tomorrow.  No matter what I'll buy the paint this weekend, there's a $5 per gallon rebate at Home Depot.  I like their premium paint.

DR Arnold, the sandwiches were from the deli that's right next to the Amtrak waiting area.  I bought a ham & brie on rye and a tuna, tomato, and sliced hardboiled egg on wheat and Richard and I had half & half.  They were both quite good.

I also really enjoyed being downtown and riding the trolleys.  I was having a bad flare up of tendonitis in my ankle, so I wasn't able to walk much.  Lots of R.I.C.E. and riding the trolleys to get from one place to another.   Memphis is working on restoring storefronts downtown and I really love that stuff, so I did a lot of looking at the architecture

You make me want to visit Memphis.  I've never been there.

What a coinkydink!  I've been listening to the Broadway cast recording of Memphis.

I enjoyed seeing it more than I am just listening to it.

Well, it's time for me to leave work and go to the theater to start another weekend of sound board operating for "Good Night Moon"!  I hope that I remember everything. ;)

Be back later.

DR Ginny:  Sometimes those pre-made deli sandwiches can be really delicious.  I especially like wraps from places like that.

DR ChasSmith, these were made fresh to order.  I know that because the ham and brie was supposed to have spicy Dijon mustard, which I knew Richard would not like, so I asked them to leave it off.

For dinner we went next door to CVS and bought a can of Progresso chicken noodle soup and some string cheese and picked up an apple in the hotel lobby.  We have a pretty complete kitchen, so I microwaved a bag of popcorn and heated up the soup.  With me fixing dinner and Richard doing laundry downstairs, it's just like home!
