A question about Best Actor vs. Best Suporting Actor in a musical.  I read somewhere (right or wrong) that in order to be considered for the Best Actor category, you had to have a song in both acts.  Any truth to that?
It's all about billing. Name above the title or below. As a matter of fact, you don't have to sing.

I meant for the Tonys.
Yeah, it's about billing. As FJL mentioned earlier, William Daniels was listed below the title for "1776," so he was nominated as a featured actor, an honor he declined.

It used to be fairly inflexible, but the nominating committee now decides those things for most shows.

Doug Henning didn't sing, but he was nominated for "The Magic Show."

The producers can petition the committee to change an actor's eligibility.  Joel Grey was billed over the title for Chicago but Amos is definitely a featured role.  If I remember correctly (IIRC, in Internet lingo), he didn't get the featured actor nomination because the producers forgot to ask the nominating committee to consider him for the featured actor Tony. :-\

My colonoscopy, which I look forward to about as much as Romney's Presidency (cue BOOK OF MORMON!) is set for July 23rd. I hve a month of anticipation.

My doctor's new assisting doctor looks like a Bollywood film star, DR MBarnum, so you might want to schedule your exams in Manhattan.

DR JRand61, what a horror story! When DR Ginny was in LOOK HOMEWARD, ANGEL, we had a nursing home audience for the dress rehearsal. About 10:45, just before the Big Final Scene, they started dragging the old folks back to the bus. One old man fell, so during the Big Final Scene, we all had to listen to cries of "Help Me! Heeeeelp Meeee!"  Makes you believe in euthanasia.

This was my morning.

Pineapple Sausage
(to the tune of Annette Funicello’s “Pineapple Princess”)

Pineapple sausage, I bought some pineapple sausage today
As I went about my shopping with my list down Costco way
Pineapple sausage, I love you, you’re the sweetest thing I’ve seen
I’ll eat you up for dinner and you’ll end up in my spleen.

I saw a girl down the Costco aisle
With a frying pan and a great big smile
I got in line just to see what’s up
She handed me a sample in a cup

Pineapple sausage, I bought some pineapple sausage today
As I went about my shopping with my list down Costco way
Pineapple sausage, I love you, you’re the sweetest thing I’ve seen
I’ll eat you up for dinner and you’ll end up in my spleen.

I took the cup and I walked away
The sweet smell of the sausage I began to crave
I grasped the toothpick and I picked it up
I took a bite and then began to sup

Pineapple sausage, I bought some pineapple sausage today
As I went about my shopping with my list down Costco way
Pineapple sausage, I love you, you’re the sweetest thing I’ve seen
I’ll eat you up for dinner and you’ll end up in my spleen.

I closed my eyes and I took a bite
It then was clear to me that my thoughts were right
I turned around and what did I see?
A package of those sausages for me!!

Too bad, I was kind of hoping to see a picture of the marquee that read:

Candice Bergen

Peggy Cass used to tell the story about how she won the Tony for Best Featured Actress in AUNTIE MAME.....they put her name up in lights on the marquee....

She told Jack Paar she ran down to the theatre to watch it light up - only to find that the "C" in her last name was burned out.

I read that THE BEST MAN has eight names above the title.

Yes and the Tony committee deemed who was eligable as lead and who was featured.

I believe where you are no longer really matters. For example Chita Rivera was belong the title but billed as Also Starring and received an Tony nomination for MERLIN

But the nuttiest thing the Tony committe ever did was to award Tom Bosley and Tammy Grimes for their respective title roles in Fiorello! and The Unsinkable Molly Brown as BEST FEATURED ACTORS!!

LOL!

It's a great story, but I wonder how true it is.   Liza Minnelli has told on Judy for embellishing the truth on her trips to Jack Paar's show.  Especially noted was Judy's tale about Bolger/Haley/Lahr squeezing her out and making her dance down the yellow brick road behind them.  She claimed Victor Fleming yelled at them: "You three dirty hams! Let that little girl in there!"  Liza plus half-siblings Lorna and Joey Luft all agreed it was a tale and not true.

actually, I do want to!

I can't tonight, BK; I'm sorry.  I do appreciate the invite, but I've got to be up at 6 tomorrow morning, and by 9:30 i'll be heading to bed.

I will see you tomorrow, though, and I look forward to it.

I knew you were having dinner with someone - I wonder if I know who it is and what it's about - so I made these plans for tmorrow morning, involving bnding the scores I printed, and finally getting down to the McGlinnventory to use the binder. Tomorrow we will PARTAY!

And I'll learn if I was right about your dinner companion!
