I have always been curious about THE WAYWARD BUS and I do believe I may need to purchase it.

There has also been an ongoing controversy about whether work for hire should be 1099 or W2.  One of the most vocal participants is a woman who singlehandedly put an end to the arts series I hosted because she filed for unemployment after having done a one night gig for us.

We have idiots like this around here as well......

Sometimes they're idiots, sometimes they're just poor and genuinely desperately NEED the unemployment insurance money and sometimes they do happen to be right and were put on 1099's because they were told "take it or leave it" and were given no other choice if they wanted the work but to accept the classification at the time even though it was improperly imposed on them by the person who gave them the work, though I'm sure that's not the case in the case decsribed in a one-night gig.  That's why it's an area that's looked at all the time.

On a lighter note:

This has to be sounded out:  We get paid weekly, very weakly.

Well I suppose since I don't know the all of the laws, I will just say that I have always been paid on a 1099 for my theatre work. I guess my thought is....if all you get is a one-night gig a couple of times a year, you might look for other employment or move to a place where your talent is in more demand.

Hello, going to throw together a book case this morning.  Then I'm taking one of my best pals to "Quattro" (the restaurant in the Four Seasons Hotel where the DP works) for lunch and to catch up as she's be at Northwestern for a year, studying to be an opera singer, or whatever that is she does she'll see.

Before I go...Just wanted to tell Jane that I do think the Hypnotherapy is helping.  I feel calmer inside but it is almost part of what is making me realize that I am not happy with where I am.  I'm working on that--applying for anything I can find to get me away from this job and just hoping to find a happy group to work with again.

Are you applying anywhere or within the government offices but with a different boss?

Absolutely, can't even imagine a case where a one-night or one-day gig could be that way unless they tell you it'll be a W-2 thing rather than a 1099 thing.

But I guess I could see it where it's a one-day workshop performance but the person worked for four weeks rehearsing under someone's control.  But that sounds very different than what was going on here.  but it adds to the posts.  :)

I was seething with jealousy all last evening reading the tweets of people who were attending the Public Theater 50th Anniversary gala performance of ROMEO & JULIET.  But then I saw the pictures this morning and saw that the performers were not in period costumes and I thought "meh."  When I see Meryl play Juliet, I want her in a muslin skirt at least...

Never let it be said that HHW shies away from the controversial, hard-hitting issues facing the national scene.

I'm up, I'm up.  I was up at six, but finally fell back asleep at around seven-thirty and had the weirdest dreams.

My feelings about the Shakespeare plays for our festival.  I now ask if they will be in traditional costume before purchasing tickets.

I guess I won't mention the Ninja costume I got yesterday for our Youth Theatre production of The Tempest.

I think it is worse.  We really don't go much anymore.  We wait for company to come and the last two years we haven't had any.  I think Keith's cousin will visit this summer and will want to see several plays.

I don't know if the plays are worse, just that the popularity of non-traditional costumes hasn't "improved".  I put improved in quotes because people seem to like it this way.

Watched "Anonymous" the other night and the costumes looked more as if everyone had stepped out of a Gainesborough painting than the Elizabethan era.

The new Michael John LaChiusa, "Queen of the Mist," is being released today.

I know that will provoke a couple of yawns.
