But the movie is a mere shadow of the brilliant Broadway production. I remember sitting in the 46th Street Theatre in August 1969, weeping profusely at the finish. I saw all of the original company except for Miss Betty Buckley, who was off to play in the London production lf PROMISES PROMISES, as I recall.  I didn't miss her; Nancy Ford was wonderful.

I know it's not everyone's favorite show, but "1776" is now playing in honor of the day. It's been a few years since I've seen it.

It's one of mine!

Mine, too!

DR Elmore, thanks for the clarification about the casting for that fabulous OKLAHOMA! that we saw together in 1980.  I've lost my Playbills from that trip, but I thought I remembered that Christine had returned to OKLAHOMA...

Oh,well, not the first time I've been wrong and it, certainly, won't be the last!

I envy DR Elmore's recollections of "1776".  I have only seen it on stage at Roundabout and Goodspeed.

I saw 1776 on tour in Ann Arbor.  Just went looking for my program from that show, which I don't have, and discovered that I do, indeed, have my OKLAHOMA! Playbill, along with those from a lot of other Broadway shows.  The only ones I don't have are from the Christmas-New Year's trip that Richard and I took in 1982-83.

I read an article about why it's so hot but I still find it so odd that we are closer to the equator but it's hotter in Atlanta and points north then here.  It's very warm here but we are not in the 100's.

Susan Bigelow sings "Just A Housewife" on the OBCR of WORKING, and she was a friend of my friend Michael Colby.  That's the main reason I remember her.

After seeing the OBC, the national tour of 1776 and the simplified set for traveling were big disappointments. It wasn't as lousy as the touring production of MAN OF LA MANCHA; that was a mess!

I once saw "1776" at a dinner theater in Sarasota, and it worked quite well. This was the same theater that did a production of "Greenwillow" with Walter Willison.

The rain has stopped on Long Island but now the temperature is climbing up. It's around 80 right now, which isn't so bad but the humidity has begun to creep up as well.

We may be celebrating indoors.

We are having Beef and Bacon Tournedos, a tortellini salad and much, much more. This is an Italian family, after all and food is love.

I wish I had thought to get some corn on the cob to eat today.  And maybe some potato salad.  I thought about making some potatoe salad, but cooking on the stove is too difficult, not to mention a little too dangerous for a guy in a wheelchair.  Cooking myself a hamburger for dinner is probably the extent of my cooking on the stove this afternoon.

Microwwave potato salad?

Now I have done it!  I started thinking about potato salad and that got me thinking about the heavenly Baked Potato Salad that they make at my Top Foods Store.

Potato salad is tricky.  There seem to be so many variations.  I've never made it myself, and couldn't possibly advise on it, but I know when I get one that I like.  My current acceptable store-bought standby is the Black Bear brand.

I bought one of those one time use grills that already has the charcoal in it and i bought a good steak, an ear of corn and baked beans for tonights dinner.  I have fresh fruit for desert, strawberries and blueberries along with frozen yogurt for dessert.  Yum!

I have never heard of a one time use grill. What exactly is it?

I don't think I have ever heard of Black Bear brand.  Of c ourse it has been thirty years since I lived on the East Coast, so that might explain it.

I could say that it was a grill that you use one time, but that would make me a smart ass.   ;D
