I'm raking two books to Ireland forreading on the plane and other free moments: HOW GREEN WAS MY VALLEY and Jack Finney's TIME AND AGAIN, which I read in 1979 and remember nothing about it now.

From DR John G:

Quote
Jane, your Sam is featured in a fun musical number staged to "Dance to the Music" in an episode called "The Coup." Great fun.

Thank you.  I'll look for it.

TOD: There are too many to mention. I think one of the worst was on my first night in San Antonio. I had moved here to be the newspaper's dining critic and my first meal in town was at a Tex-Mex place that served (and still serves) the most butt ugly food imaginable. I can still remember the refrieds tasted as if someone had dropped a bottle of liquid smoke in them and then microwaved them with metal inside. They were molten lava 10 minutes after I finished the rest of the meal, of which I did not eat a lot. Even the margarita was lousy.

Yuck!

Saturday morning greetings!  I woke up about 7am and have just finished reading Mr. Churchill's Secretary by Susan Elia MacNeal.  It's my selection for my book group's London Roundabout and it took on even more relevance when the January trip to London & Norwich appeared on our radar screen.  I learned a lot of London geography while enjoying a good story that's the first in a series.

I added it to my long list of books to read.

And the word of the day is: BACCATE!

And The Song Of The Day Is: STRAWBERRY FIELDS FOREVER

I just ate some delicious strawberries.

More news from Dublin: Jonathan's father and partner were broken into last night, beaten up with crow bars and interrogated by armed raiders.  I feel so sorry for him! I'm waiting for further news.

How horrible.

HEALING VIBES FOR THEM BOTH!!!

That's terrible.  Please keep us informed.

How awful - hope they're OK...

I found out I misread the script the doctor gave me.  I thought it said "spiral KUB" but the way it was on the script was

spiral
KUB

In other words 2 different tests.  Who knew?

The tech sure thought it was funny that I came up with a whole new kind of test.

:)

How did the tests go?

DR Jennifer when I put a hold on the eBook GONE GIRL there were 54 holds for one book at the library.  Now there are 113.  Since there is only one book in the system I think it will be awhile before I read it.

I've had a nice, relaxing day - took a half-hour swim, and watched a Maria Wern movie - I'll watch another now.

The press here makes it sound like all of London is in lockdown. DR Doug is now the HHW "man on the ground" in London. Isn't that the phrase they used to use?

BK's interest in Swedish films made me think I might like to read a Swedish mystery. I chose Camilla Lackberg's THE ICE PRINCESS. It took me 100 pages to get interested, and then I "speed read" the last 150 pages. Interesting story, but IMHO it really needs some tightening.

MBarnum, I can't remember if anyone told you but "Smash" had a Bollywood scene. It's in the episode Publicity and it's about 25 minutes, if you want to fast-forward to it.

Oh wow, that was wonderful! Thanks JohnG!

A couple of days ago I got an e-mail from a lady looking to sell a Follies poster with the great BYRD art.  She asked if I could steer her somewhere to sell it - I asked her for a photo and told her I could find her a buyer in ten seconds and to send me the price she wanted.  This is no ordinary poster - this is a 4 foot by 6 foot huge subway poster - it's amazing.  I bought it in ten seconds.  Just have to figure out how to safely ship from NY to LA - I told her to go to a UPS Store kind of place and that I knew it would probably cost a hundred or more to ship, but they know how to do it.  If it's a professional shipper the glass will be fine - if not, I'll have her remove the glass and I'll replace that here.

I'd have her take the glass out, BK.

I sent my mother's sewing machine to my sister and I had UPS pack it and insure it. I paid $99, and it arrived broken, and they refused to repair it.

I'm thinking she'll go to a pro art shipper who will know how to pack art.  I've sent glassed stuff before and it arrives fine - you just have to know what you're doing.

Ok. I know I will not trust UPS again. I sent lots of fragile glass that I packed myself to my sister and nothing broke. The one thing I had UPS send broke.

The Swedish vampire novel, LET THE RIGHT ONE IN, is amazing.
