And we're supposed to start boarding in about 20 minutes...

And I need to make a few phone calls before doing so...

So...

Good morning all.  Not much planned here today; we put up FIFTY QUARTS of pickled beets yesterday in a twelve hour period.  Then I streamed the Curiosity landing.
I shall probably celebrate by watching Marilyn Monroe on blu and ray.  BK and I seem to agree emphatically on the transfers...

Thanks for keeping the celebration going.

It is summer time - and the money is NOT easy.  Gasoline at nearly $4 per gallon means I am paying about $12 to do theatre....and when I do theatre, I don't work as many hours as I usually do.....8 hours per week, sometimes 4 hours....instead of the usual 16 hours.

Which is just a way of saying, I only afford ONE of the Kritzerland releases today.  So I purchased the Baja Marimba CD!!!

Tonight is a dress rehearsal of THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE.....in which I have more costume changes than lines.....and tomorrow night is another Dress Rehearsal of TMM.

I am excused from SEE HOW THEY RUN for those two nights, but I do not know what I will be missing - because we don't have a rehearsal schedule yet.

Good news about the Show last night.

Keep cool vibes for DR GEORGE.

Nice email from Mr Sondheim.

I may have some more TMM pictures tomorrow, maybe not until Wednesday....we shall see.  I am not going to put on my policeman's uniform until AFTER the newspaper photographer leaves.

TOD:

I try to avoid most fried foods these days, but I do (occasionally) order a side of French fries.

I enjoyed watching the THIS IS YOUR LIFE with Alexis Smith from the link last night - was that the theatre orchestra playing those cues?  That must have been a golden hours bonanza for them.  Did the audience stay to watch....AFTER a performance?

Ralph Edwards never changes - he is not pleasant to watch.

Snickers
Twinkies

(Just kidding!}
I loves me some fried Oreos. (No kidding.)

Just saw your post, Jose. Deep-fried whoopie pies are great, too. I think you'd like the deep-fried Oreos here, made with panko breadcrumbs and topped with a mint drizzle.

That's an amazing show.

I was wondering about that, too, plus the logistics in general.  Television equipment being what it was in those days, surely the cast and crew of the show knew that something of the sort was happening...no?  And I always wondered if the honored person was always as totally in the dark as was let on.  Quite possibly all of this really worked as a surprise back then.  There's no doubt my cynicism arises from today's "reality" shows.

DR CHAS SMITH - I think as Mr Edwards mentioned in a January, 1958, episode.....one of the very few "honorees" who was told in advance about the show was Miss Frances Farmer.

He was worried that she might get violent with him if he tried to surprise her.

Greetings from Toyland!

My hair is cut, but the social security situation will continue until I am back from Dublin. My accountant has taken the week off.

I am waiting for a visitor named Drew, who wants to be an orchestrator. Silly boy! There are no longer orchestras on Broadway.

Congratulations to BK on last night's show!  In celebration I will listen to the Burt Bacharach recording on my iPod while exercising today.

I think so....at least the participants.....in a group setting like Alexis was in.....I guess everyone was afraid it was them.....I love Dorothy Collins saying...."Oh, no!!!"

And of course in the Frances Farmer episode the look she gives Ralph when he mentions her first husband Leif Ericson....like she was afraid he was going to bring Leif in......

I just finished the book that MR BK has been talking about - musings from the dancers of WEST SIDE STORY.  Mr Harvey Evans mentioned it in his interview......

I ahve to agree with MR BK - there is a great book in the subject.....somewhere.....but it's not here, I don't think.  Interesting....but not worth the small effort it took to get it together.
