Well, you've read the notes, the notes had a condition, and now it is time for you to post until the conditioned cows come home.

I saw three dear readers here thirty minutes ago, and yet there was not one post from any of them.  Most unseemly and I sense a bitch-slapping from here to eternity and hell and back.

My flight from Boston ended up leaving about 30 minutes late to a minor maintenance issue - they had to replace a lightbulb over one of the seats. However, there was a further delay since it was a full(!) flight and people just can't seem to grasp the concept of Row Numbers and Seat Letters. ::)

But the flight was OK. There was some turbulence along the way, but we were warned in advance about it. Apparently, we flew quite a northern right mostly over Canada as well as at higher altitude than normal to get around and over the turbulent air.

I didn't sleep as much as I thought I would, but I did get a few winks.

Once at SEA-TAC, I just kept hoping that my bags would make it off the conveyor belt in time so that I could catch the last Light LINK train into downtown Seattle... And they did, and I did!

I stared giggling as soon as I got out of the Westlake Station. All the storefronts were closed, but I could already tell that this was no longer the Seattle that I viewed through my nine-year old eyes. I can't wait to see it in the daylight.

Alas, I just unpacked my bike, and it looks like it banged around a bit, and I'll need to get the back tire adjusted. Thankfully, there are two Brompton dealerships in the area, and I'll take it after I grab breakfast. Hopefully, they can take care of it on the spot.

Good morning, all! Yesterday was a long day, and today may be nearly as long, although i'm hoping that I'll be home by 6:30 or so. I got to Toyland early, set up the furniture for the afternon meeting, rewrote the arrangement of the duet for the Appalachian show, scanned it and emailedit to all parties involved, and putzed around for a bit. The meeting lasted nearly three hours and then we all went to dinner at Eataly on 23rd and Fifth Avenue. The food at Eataly was quite good; I had gnocchi in a tomato-basil sauce. By the time I got home, it was 9pm and I was exhausted.

This morning, I have another meeting over the year's budget, and I know it will be interesting, hopefully not painful, and that the Man from Philadelphia will be in a good mood over how well things are going on this trip to Manhattan. After he departs, I have work to do. Around 4pm, I'm meeting some of my music prep collegaues for a visit.

More coffee and then off to Toyland!

I recall that I danced for joy when I snagged a copy of the Judi Densch ALNM cd on eBay for a resonable price.  It is a wonderful recording of the show with terrific performances.  My only dislike is Joanna Riding's Anne who she portrays as snotty, petualnt and spoiled, making the character totally unlikeable.  And unfortuately, it seems that every actress who has played the part since has taken the same path.  Flehh!

A few years ago I naively tried to find a copy of the Judi Dench CD and kind of gave up the search without gaining an understanding of why people seemed to know about it and recommend it but it didn't seem to be around.  Could y'all enlighten a DR?

DR ChasSmith, I guess for me the main attraction of the Judi Densch cd is Judi Densch.  She is exquisite as Desiree.  It is not so much her voice (which is on par and just as perfectly suited to the songs as was Glynis Johns) as it is her acting of the role.  Her Desiree comes across on the recording as a complete character (and this has more to do with her talent than just the inclusion of some additional dialogue.)  I can only imagine what it would have been like to see her do this show on stage. And everyone else rises to the occasion--Sian Phillips, Patricia Hodge as Charlotte and Laurence Guittard as Frederik are all great, too.

I haven't listened to it for some time, but I do recall that it also had a nice sound quality overall.  And I think it was the first time I ever heard any of "My Husband, The Pig".

Since it's long out-of-print, I have no problems with making a copy for your listening pleasure.

Unless a certain reKord company is planning on acquiring the rights to do a limited release...?

If I recall correctly, I read somewhere that, despite the acclaim for the recording, that Mr. Sondheim didn't like it and when it went OOP he didn't want it released again.

I may be wrong but that's my recollection.

I have a copy of the recording and I think it's because of DtM!

Thank you, DR Ben.  That was going to be my next question:  What happened to make it a rarity in the first place?  Did they press, like, twelve copies and call it a day?

That production of A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC put back some cut material, and I believe Sondheim has gone on record as deciding the cut music should have remained. Whether that would affect the decision to take the recording out of print once the CD sold out is anyone's guess.

Good morning, all.

Could I add my name to the Judi Dench list, DtM?

TOD:  I always thought that songs about surfing and cars were stupid.

BK, If that was the National Theatre production of A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC done in the nineties, I saw it.  Judi Dench and Sian Phillips.  Wonderful production.
