You know, when I moved into this apartment building there were around 10 or 12 tenants from India. Now there are none.

The last one, Raja, just moved to Virginia.

Jose, to whet your appetite...here is one place we will be going to for dessert! And it is NOT Luciano's apartment.

Pernells Roberts had quite the lust-crush on my interviewee Cal Bolder, back when Cal appeared on Bonanza.

What's this?  Has Pernell been outed?  I had no idea.

Nor did I!

Seriously? I thought it was common knowledge. I knew about him years and years ago.

Common knowledge or personal knowledge?

Apparently, The Master was booed at the Venice Film Festival and had massive walkouts in Toronto.  Of course, the American critics are falling all over themselves (save for a handful) proclaiming it a great new American film and a masterpiece.  My how words have no meaning anymore.  Of course, they said that about There Will Be Blood, but in the scheme of things that film will not be a blip on anyone's radar a decade from now, including the critics who proclaimed THAT one of the great masterpieces of modern cinema.  And I do have to say it - for me, Joaquin Phoenix is the kind of actor I just can't stand watching.  They all think they're being "real" and deep and inside their character, but at the end of the day, it just comes off as weird and grandstanding and, in the case of this film, completely unappetizing and grotesque right down to the posture of the character.  Watch De Niro in Taxi Driver.  THAT is what these fellows are aspiring to, but it's just like show and tell with them.

I guess I need to get the new PIPE DREAM.  What's crazy is that I only recently got the old one for my first time.  I could have sworn I had the LP, but when I went to look for PIPE DREAM, ALLEGRO, and ME AND JULIET on my shelves .......... Nothing!!!  So I got all three CDs and am only now starting to become familiar with PIPE DREAM.  Haven't spun the other two yet.

That's too bad about THE MASTER.  I was looking forward to it being at least really really interesting.  Well, I'll still sit through it.

Here's another oddity:  I haven't yet seen THERE WILL BE BLOOD.  Never went to it.  Eventually bought a used copy but haven't yet watched it.

DR MBarnum - I had no idea that this weekend in Portland is Feast Portland!

So...

This could mean that the some of the places that you and I want to visit could be overrun with foodies from all over the US and other countries. Or it could meant that they'll be deserted.

However...

It turns out that some of my chef-friends are in town this weekend, so I'm gonna see who I can get a hold of.

*And I think you'd like to meet some of the CHEFS.

Stop that thief!  Apparently, when DR Jose left Seattle for points south; he took most of our sunshine with him.  We have gone from the mid and upper-70's to our new high of 60-65

I won't be having The Royal, Amélie, Nutcracker, Dobos Torte, or the Marggie Lane's Potluck Pleaser.  I am now seriously afraid to eat anything here. ;D

It is much cooler here today.  In fact I should have put warmer clothes on.

Yep, it is a bit cray and cool, verging on cold.

However, when I got up today, I took one last walk around Pike Place Market. Watching the ferries through the gray and mist truly reminded me of my childhood in Seattle. -I still remember longing for snow days and never getting them.

And my train shoud be pulling into Portland momentarily!

Laters...

Trusty me. That stretch from the river to the train station seems to last forever.

DR TCB - I will always trusty you. ;)

-We ended up arriving a few minutes late since there was some speed restrictions during the last part of the trip, as well as some train traffic coming out of Vancouver. However, it was still a very civilized way to travel. And, thankfully, the walk from the Amtrak station to the MAX station was very short, and my hotel was/is literally across the street from the stop.

*And I got a free upgrade to a balcony room! -Of course, my view consists mainly of the street, the pool, Macy's and some trees, but, still, it's a nice "extra".

I used to take Amtrack between Tacoma and Portland on a regular basis.  I always enjoyed that trip.

And now...

I went ahead and unpacked my luggage once I got up to my room. I usually don't, but since I usually end up re-packing everything anyway, well...

I made some tea, enjoyed my free cookie, and now I'm just vegging for a bit before I head out to do some exploring.

It does looks like some of the places I want to check out this weekend are running on special schedules because of Feast Portland, but there's still plenty left to do, to explore.

bk and other iDevice enabled DRs - A whole slew of iOS6-related app updates just got released. I'm currently downloading 30(!) of them. I'm gonna wait a few weeks to update to iOS6, but the early reviews look promising - except for the iMaps debacle.

I was super happy as well. Ian was my favorite player. Although I do think that Dan played a better game. I think that if the jurors had been able to watch the show and see how Dan played everyone till the end... that maybe he would have won. Great ending.
