As I more or less posted last week, SKYFALL started off "okay" for me, but as it progressed I found myself liking it more and more, until by the end I realized I'd just had a rollicking great time at the theater -- in spite of getting my eardrums blasted in the faux-IMAX where, nowadays, blasting eardrums is what they specialize in. I sat there seriously considering trying earplugs in the future.
BK nails my single greatest complaint in a simple, eloquent phrase: "too many action sequences that are just pure fantasy". SKYFALL starts off with one that has you shaking your head not two minutes into the picture. Fortunately, as you now know, the movie redeems itself. I'd guess we're stuck with this in Bond films now. A too-large percentage of the audience wouldn't settle for anything "less" than these kinds of stupid-fying action sequences.
But I hadn't even realized this: no shaky cam! Yay!!!! Today, Best Director. Tomorrow, Sainthood.
