I've been caught up in the drama of my life.   Very boring, but very time demanding.

If I'm lucky I get 1 hour a day to play.   That includes the internet and taking any walks.
Forget reading, movies, cleaning, etc., etc.

What keeps me going is work (of which I need to go right now), and being in love.

As I more or less posted last week, SKYFALL started off "okay" for me, but as it progressed I found myself liking it more and more, until by the end I realized I'd just had a rollicking great time at the theater -- in spite of getting my eardrums blasted in the faux-IMAX where, nowadays, blasting eardrums is what they specialize in.  I sat there seriously considering trying earplugs in the future.

BK nails my single greatest complaint in a simple, eloquent phrase:  "too many action sequences that are just pure fantasy".  SKYFALL starts off with one that has you shaking your head not two minutes into the picture.  Fortunately, as you now know, the movie redeems itself.  I'd guess we're stuck with this in Bond films now.  A too-large percentage of the audience wouldn't settle for anything "less" than these kinds of stupid-fying action sequences.

But I hadn't even realized this:  no shaky cam!  Yay!!!!  Today, Best Director.  Tomorrow, Sainthood.

And with BK's endorsement, I will probably tackle AMOUR sometime.  But it does indeed sound like a tough one, and I have to admit I'm going to content myself with keeping it on the back burner for a while.

Don't know, guess iPad doesn't want him to use the competition.  He can read books we purchase from B & N, just not buy them directly to the iPad.  Like my library app on my Nook, the quality of reading them isn't as good and you can't "turn" the pages like a regular book.

I am confused. So he can use the ipad to read the books from B & N. But he cannot buy them directly from his ipad? Obviously it would be preferable if he could buy them directly from his ipad. But as long as he can read them on his ipad why is that a problem?  I find it much easier (and almost always) buy my ebooks on my computer and send them to my kindle vs buying them on my actual kindle.

Do you always buy your B & N books right from your nook?

Also what do you mean "you can't turn the pages like a regular book"?

SPOILER DISCUSSION ABOUT LAST NIGHT's FINALE of THE AMAZING RACE

Shockingly (for me) I was thrilled as well.  I never end up rooting for the underdog or the feelgood team. I almost always end up rooting for the best competitors.  But I could not help myself. Sometimes I just end up rooting for someone and have no control over it.  To me Trey and Lexie were the best competitors by far in the finale. But 2 weeks ago they did something that just turned me off of them. What they did to Abby and Ryan was just so underhanded. IT really made me dislike them. It's funny because it didn't make me dislike the chipendales. They u-turned abby and ryan (the one guy needed the money for his sick dad). And I was fine with that. That is part of the game. But then when Trey/Lexie u-turned the team that had u-turned abby/ryan - doing it because they knew that team had already passed the u-turn. Well that rubbed me the wrong way. I get that Abby and Ryan were the biggest competition (and probably would have won). And i get that it is for a million dollars. But that was just so underhanded and mean. I don't even know why TAR would allow that game play.  I think the gay farmers were pretty uncompetitive at the beginning. But in the past few weeks that had started to improve. They were the smartest by far. I did feel bad that Lexie had so much trouble with the flags. But she should have done what the winner did. Just try different combinations. They told you when you were right (which i didn't think they were going to do). Great ending.

I don't go to the movies very often. I watch most of the movies I see on dvd.

The only movies i can recall seeing in the theatre this year are The Hunger Games and Breaking Dawn Part 2. I probably went to at least 2 more movies, just can't remember what they were.

TOD:

I guess SKYFALL wins by default since I've seen so few recent movies.  But I'm sure I'm forgetting something.  Or a couple of somethings.

(The finest experiences I had in theaters this year?  THE BIRDS, RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK, and LAWRENCE OF ARABIA.)

TOD:

I've seen no 2012 movies other than the screeners I've gotten.  From that group I've like ARGO, FLIGHT, and THIS IS FORTY.  The two worst have been DARK KNIGHT RISING...a rolling juggernaut of illogic and CLOUD ATLAS...just as pretentious and ponderous as it looked in its TV trailer.

TOD:

ARGO was good.

LINCOLN - The parts were better than the whole.  Daniel Day-Lewis is probably a shoo-in for the Best Actor Oscar.

I'm waiting for the rest of the biggies to become available on DVD.

One of the things that I do miss about Los Angeles is not having neighbors who I can borrow their Academy screeners from.

And of course LES MISERABLES which I think is being released on Christmas Day....

I watched ANATOMY OF A MURDER on TCM yesterday afternoon.....it is such a GOOD movie......

I have always been bothered by the terrible performance of the man who plays the DA.....it's grating....and after all of these years, I finally looked him up......it's Eve Arden's husband - Brooks West.....whew....  NEVER realized that for ALL of these years!
